My nitpick about the match is when it gets into the screwdriver/mouse trap board/barbed wire bed territory. And not just this match but any that have that kind of stuff. It takes me out of it to think like why would a board full of mouse traps be out there. I get that one of them was sadistic enough to plan that out ahead of time but it makes zero sense to keep it under the ring. Like how does the other competitor not see it when they are taking out chairs and trash cans and going to every side while going under the ring. It works out so much better like the way Kenny did it by having someone bring it out from the back or something.

as for the screwdriver and trying to stab, it just leads me to think ok well why not just bring a gun next time and get it over with.

 

You can nitpick any wrestling match that way though, you can look for loopholes all the time, whats the fun in that?

 

One thing Meltzer said about the match that I agree with is that it felt like they wanted this to become a legendary hardcore match, but like...there was nothing in this match that I haven't seen before, except maybe the broken glass and that wasn't even that crazy. IIRC in kayfabe the glass was also supposed to be from the table smashed during the Dynamite first episode, which kinda adds to the lame "planned" feeling of the match.

Idk, I'd have rather seen Moxley vs Omega in a normal match

 

Yeah but some stuff is worse than others. I’m not saying it was the worst thing ever. Just not really for me.

I actually really liked the glass thing. That’s a nice call back. Yeah it didn’t quite work out the way I’m sure they wanted but it’s good storytelling

 

Not to go all William Regal here, but Im not sure the point is that the competitors dont see it. Its that they haven't game-planned around using that item. In the same way that Kenny hitting the Paradigm Shift didn't finish the match, him using the chains isnt going to be as effective as the mouse trap board or the shattered glass he planned to implement.

I'd actually like a wrestler to look under the ring and just be perplexed every once and a while to help sell that.

I'll agree with this though; what made that spot cool was the Bucks and Page saying he was going too far.

I actually thought it was one of the best storytelling hardcore matches Ive ever seen. They had teased a few things in the build (barbed wire bat/broom, etc), and then the desire to keep one-upping each other and inflicting more damage. And they came back to weapons later (glass was used early, then later in the v-triggers...chain was used multiple times, etc).

 

OTT already did that. 5 star match.

 

My favorite part of the ppv was Excalibur forgetting what an Alabama Slam was called and JR pretending it had some taboo name.

 

@preppyak I thought the bucks and page coming out and giving him the next prop and then telling him he's going to far is one of the spots that took me out of it. If they think he's going too far, why are they helping carry out a kayfabe net of barbed wire? If my friends are fucking up I tell them but I definitely do my best to not enable them to make said mistake I think they're making.

 

I think I would've liked Mox/Omega as the third blowoff match for the feud. I know this has been building forever but I would've preferred 1-2 matches before this between them then the final be a hardcore match. But that's my two cents and I was unlikely to like the match much because it's just not to my tastes. Respect the hell out of what looked like the safest hardcore match they could put together.

 

Oh man. I was screaming at my screen at that part. "You fucking know better, Excalibur!".

 

Now I just want to see the BTE segments were Kenny's staying up all night having to make that and the mousetrap board.

I don't care for Sin Cara but there has to be a ton of opportunity out there for him these days

 

Fact is though, that this is a company that's only a couple of months old and they already put on quite professional, intriguing shows.

 

Yeah, this I do worry about now because Ciampa/Gargano had this same problem. Once you've done the brutal match, what do you go with next?

At least Mox has a logical reason to want a sanctioned match so they can put on a normal match next. But no idea what you use for the blow-off match

 

They could stretch it out. There doesn’t need to be a blow off match soon. Have a sanctioned match soon-ish. Then a third match when one of them has the title. The feud could still simmer below the surface but not have them face 1 on 1 for another while.

 

Yeah, I like this. I'd enjoy if it kind of bubbled up on TV every couple of weeks -- doesn't have to be weekly -- where they fuck with each other in various ways.

 

Man, Sin Cara, that seems like a bad move... like a really bad move. Should have asked Luke Harper how bad of a move it would be...

 

I would love to hear Kennys thoughts on the match, he used to go on with Alvarez and Meltzer and talk about his Okada matches and would have a reason for every little tiny thing he did during the matches.

Honestly they could just let the dude go and have someone else become Sin Cara. Wouldn’t be the first time. Although it would be pointless

 

Ciampa/Gargano was one of the reasons why this match wasn't as good...as I said before, the match felt like stuff I'd seen before, and the second they started removing the canvas and ring padding I instantly was reminded of that match

 

And they shall all be welcome to the purgatory of frozen contacts. Abandon all hope, ye who take this route.
