I can understand the people saying that him contacting her directly is a very sensitive issue that requires a lot of nuance for her sake, but saying something publicly denouncing that awful behavior would be something he can do TODAY to show that he isn't thinking of only himself right now.

No it's just kind of my point. People pointing out and telling others WHAT their first reaction should be. It's this whole, I'm feeling for the victim and you aren't. You're a terrible person and I'm sympathetic and right. And the kid was right, this forum did implode and it's interesting to see people talk and debate. And this makes him wrong for saying that? And then I'm wrong for defending him? Ridiculous.

Also, who in the world is truly surprised or shocked at this? People in power have always taken advantage of their position. When guys decide to make a band, what's the main reason they want to play in a band? To get chicks. Of course this isn't everyone, but shit. People are shocked that Jesse did this. He's been known to be a dickhead. I'm certain many bands that we all listen to and love have most likely had similar situations. I'm not defending him and I think it's disgusting to take advantage of a 15 year old, fuck, but I'm in no way surprised. Just sorry for the girl and disappointed.

If your first reaction to hearing this story is "lol it's gonna be so funny watching the fans react" then you're an asshole.

And the sad thing is that some people clearly do need to be told how to react to this stuff. There has been and continues to be a deluge of people shrugging this off, harrassing the victim and demanding evidence. Those people SHOULD be called out or this awful cycle continues foe the next scandal and the one after that. There may not be an easy or "correct" way to grapple with this, but there certainly is a wrong way and it has been seen here and all over the internet in the last 48 hours.

 

It wasn't "lol its going to be funny." It was stating the fact that it was going to blow up. And shit, it wasn't even my comment by the way. But I don't like the whole, "I'm right, you are wrong" attitude, it isn't that clear cut. The kid that originally commented wasn't dismissing the girl, but stated that this was going to blow up. I had similar thoughts. I wanted to read comments to see how people felt. So I was annoyed when someone immediately tried to call that person out for not first saying, "I feel sorry for the victim and I hope she's okay." It's that self-righteous attitude that keeps people off topic and makes people defensive....like where this is going and I'm sorry for that.

I agree with you that it shouldn't be shrugged off. I'm not calling for evidence, I believed it the second I read it. Again, it's not shocking that it's happened.
