well no but one song's lyrics are ever going to make or break a band's popularity, as it probably shouldn't. now the actual music and presentation.....lyrics aside, seeing as those are both terrible as well, maybe this band wont get popular. been lots of pop punk bands in the last decade that popped up for an album or two and disappeared because a. this style of music is dated b. people who still make music like this tend to keep making music like this and it gets old and boring and they fade away. i put my money on this band being a blip in the radar and no one knowing their name by this time next year.

Why is "other lyrics are bad too" a defense of this? "Other people kill people too" doesn't really get you off the hook for killing someone. Writing awful, vicious, sexist shit like this is bad, full stop. There is no nuance to the lyrics. There is no room for interpretation. It is harmful, without question. And there are so many other things to write songs about, or other ways to approach break up songs without doing...this.

There isn't really any reason to favor "organic" growth with something like this. Whether you arrive there on your own or kicking and screaming, it is just important that you get there.

But seriously. It says a lot about you if you are more outraged by some perceived hypocrisy than you are by blatantly misogynistic behavior. Those aren't comparable wrongs with comparable harm done. To suggest otherwise lays bare your true motives.

I'm just curious if you have links to this at all? I'm curious what was said by Anthony and Co.

so bayside I think wrote a song going after front porch step or someone like that and people pointed out their history of sexist lyrics, Anthony acknowledged their problematic past lyrics, while noting their ex bassist wrote all of the first album where the majority (not all) of their fucked up lyrics are, and owned up to the fact he'd made mistakes in the past and aims to do better and hold others accountable as well. this all happened on ap so I can't find any links

Wow. I went and looked up the video. I had to. Morbid curiosity I guess. The lyrics are definitely awful on many, many levels. But really, the song itself is so attrocious and terrible that it honestly sounds - and the video looks - like a joke where someone is making fun of this kind of music. Like the kind of stuff Andy Samberg and Lonely Island do. The entire thing plays like someone took about 30 seconds to "write" a joke song with awful and offensive lyrics.

    I'm honestly flabbergasted that:

    A) this band actually wrote, recorded and released this song on an actual label

    B) anyone actually listens to this garbage on purpose and finds any merit to it whatsoever

Welcome to 2017. The snowflakes are offended at every single word or image these days. I just simply don't let stuff like this bother me. Doesn't affect me or my wife or in the slightest. Shitty song and band though.

Great, good for you. However, let's use what non-sociopaths have - empathy - and think a little bit about why this might bother someone, especially a woman. Let's think about how they are faced with violence, abuse, and a world that generally treats them every day as less than. And a society that says, and reinforces in policy and art: you're less than. Let's think how that may impact them and why it may bother them to see it perpetuated anywhere, let alone see this cycle continue with the next generation in something like the music they enjoy.

If it doesn't bother you? Fantastic. But if you're the kind of person that can't see why misogyny bothers others? You're just an asshole.

I'm definetley understand it can bother other people it's always been a subject that's hard for me to understand or feel any relation too. If I didn't see posts like this and others on this website over the last few years I could read the lyrics and wouldn't think twice and think of it as nothing more than a guy being pissed off at a girl and writing a shitty bitter song about it. Maybe the stuffs been normalized in my mind. I'm not a female so it's hard to understand their mindset of it all.

Snowflakes? Really? The motherfucker actually sings the line "you fucking w****." The misogyny is staring you directly in the eyes when you listen to the song. It is egregious and undeniable. This isn't even a matter of nuance. This is blatant, pervasive, textbook misogyny. "Snowflakes." The amount of privilege carried by that word is absurd.

Right, to an extent but lyrics in songs like this with the guy calling the girl a whore aren't gonna bother her. We could both listen to the song and then talk about what's for dinner tonight like it's a non issue. We are both in our 30s and gonto shows regularly and never experience anything out of the ordinary contrary to what happens at a lot of shows these days.

I can find plenty of misogyny in lyrics from the resident boy Kanye and other artist that are praised here. Like I said if sites like this didn't post about this kind of thing. I wouldnt have known people have such problems with things like song lyrics and

Why does the fact that other artists have misogynistic lyrics make this example any less serious?
