They’re just slowly building up to announcing that this will be a Vegas residency.

I wish they'd lower the price or like split the bands across dates or something

Some… questionable practices going on right now. The day tickets went on sale, I signed up for the waitlist for Saturday (which required my payment information.) I just received an email (see below) announcing the new date but also telling me that even though I signed up for a specific day's waitlist, my money would be used to purchase this new date unless I logged in and cancelled my entire waitlist order within 24 hours. No option to continue waiting for your preferred day. Imagine you're on a trip/haven't checked your email in 24 hours?

I foresee, at the very least, a lot of chargebacks coming FrontGate/LiveNation's way…

Wtf. That’s sketch. good looks for finding that. I was on the waitlist to get tickets for my brother for the first day and I def wouldn’t not have caught that. Cancelled. Welp.

This is insane. I genuinely hope it is isolated but come on—that’s fraud, y’all.

I went and read the fine print on their site, it says they can change the date/time etc without penalty, but the way it reads, sounds like this is for tickets you've already bought, not the way you've instructed them to use your payment info in the event that tickets open up for your preferred date.

    This is so weird.

Fraud. Bait and switch. Whatever you want to call it, what they're doing by using your payment details to buy a date you didn't sign up to waitlist for is wrong.

Will this be Fyre Festival 2.0?

This does have a shady feel to it for sure.....however, I imagine there will be some pretty sweet headline shows in Vegas that week in between.

*Edit.....although on second thought the festival might not allow that. Hope that's not the case.

    Composer, but never composed.

not in any comparable sense, but there are unique issues at play here clearly

    Give what you can.

Fyre was a disaster because that meme lord or whatever had no grasp on the logistics around putting on a festival. This is being put on by an organization that is totally prepared, but is price gouging in the name of nostalgia. If we have to compare it to something, I'd go with Woodstock '99. I do think this will be its own unique clusterfuck though with its own HBO/Hulu/Netflix documentary.

I just don’t understand the appeal of paying $300 for a one day festival with short sets and the inability to see a ton of acts due to overlap.

Nostalgia is a hell of a drug, but I’d much rather goto Coachella, Bonnaroo, Lolla, etc where it’s not a straight nostalgia cash grab, and you’re getting an entire weekend of sets with amazing production.

This venue is as a bare bones as it gets, hope everyone going has fun, but I’ll put some effort into discovering new music before paying for this.

I agree. This festival spread out over a weekend would be way better.

If the bands have to sit around for the third date and they'll be stopped from playing headline shows in the nearest proximity, I could see lots of them joining forces to have secret shows as super groups playing whatever hahh, would be cool.

Once the third date sells out (and probably the 4th), I'm sure they'll be allowed to book shows in the area. Lots of acts that play Coachella book shows in SF/LA/SD/PHX during the off week.

Thanks for the heads up here. I need to check my email and make sure they're not doing that with mine. I only got on a waitlist for a friend because the page wouldn't load for him (he was still stuck in the queue).

EDIT: I cancelled anyway. I don't want to potentially miss an email and be charged for a date when my friend and I can't even go together.

Honestly I’m surprised I haven’t seen any press outlets covering this wait list bait and switch… and I’m now suspicious of every single one that doesn’t (just since LN has such a wide reach.)

EDIT: I think the better way would have been the opposite – you have 24 hours to opt-in to the new date, and then it rolls downhill to the next waitlist person. If you don't respond within 24 hours, your original date choice/spot is held.

    Things have changed.

Not sure, considering one was on a remote island without access to basic amenities and the other is taking place in the second most popular tourist destination in the U.S.

People invent what they want, I guess!

It definitely would have been. And I kind of feel like they're going to turn around and do it that way if they still can. Or they're just going to allow people to cancel much later than 24 hours later. It seems like there should be enough demand for another date organically without having to trick the waitlisters for the previous dates.
