@KidLightning That Lucy Dacus album was really solid. It should be getting talked about a lot more! @Kennedy @fenway89 @Larry David @Colin Your Enthusiasm @Mary V (you 5 in particular, I'm sure there are others that would enjoy the album) have you checked out the Lucy Dacus album Historian?

My favorite tracks on first listen were Night Shift and Timefighter, but it's all pretty great and I'll definitely be returning to it.

It looks like she's good friends with Julien Baker and opened for her on some recent tour dates too!

Night Shift and Timefighter are great, but I'm also partial to Yours & Mine and Pillar of Truth.

As part of my contractual agreement with @JediMasterKevo182 here is my latest offering - my review of the deluxe version tracks from Blink-182's California. As previously stipulated in the contract, I am not required to review the 16 songs on the regular album version.

Here are my thoughts on the 12 deluxe version tracks (released in 2017):

    Parking Lot

I had heard this song prior to now and I enjoyed it. I think it's a pretty fun song overall (even though it's decidedly NOT bathtime music) and I liked the nostalgic lyrics. The vocal melodies in the bridge were pretty well done too. I'm sure a lot of people wouldn't appreciate the na-na-na's in the chorus. It's catchy enough, but seems a bit lazy too. Overall, a solid first track to my listen!

    Misery
This is a pretty catchy track too. I like the prominent role that Matt Skiba has. Lyrically this song doesn't really do a ton for me. "Misery loves company, I don't need anyone" isn't great, but it's not terrible either. It works fine for what it is. I think both Parking Lot and Misery would not have felt out of place on the regular version of California.

    Good Old Days
This song is a bit slower and it has another catchy chorus. I thought the lyrics worked pretty well in this song even though it's a bit repetitive, especially toward the end of the track. Musically, this song doesn't stand out to me much. I think what I'd remember most about the song is its chorus. All 3 tracks have been enjoyable so far.

    Don't Mean Anything
This is my least favorite track up to this point. The song is catchy enough (clearly at this point in their career they know how to write catchy hooks), but the chorus is way too repetitive and the song didn't do much for me in terms of lyrics.

    Hey I'm Sorry
Musically, this song is a bit of a (welcome) departure from the first 4 tracks. I thought the vocals and melodies were pretty strong on this song. Up to this point, I haven't disliked any of the songs, but there hasn't been a song yet that has stood out so strongly to me thatI wanted to go back and listen to it again right away.

    Last Train Home
This is not a cover of the extremely catchy (and forever ruined) Lostprophets song. This is probably my favorite song on this so far. I can really see Matt Skiba's influence on this track as it all just seems a little darker than what typical Blink-182 is. I think the vocals work really well here with Skiba singing background vocals and Mark Hoppus singing over them. Good song!

    Wildfire
This is one of the faster songs (if not the fastest song) on this album up to this point so it stood out a bit for that reason. The vocal interplay between Mark and Matt was the highlight for me here. A fun song, but not especially memorable either.

    6/8
My favorite song on the album so far and it happens to be the most unique track (in my opinion) too. It's about the heaviest that Blink-182 really gets with the loud guitars, aggressive drumming, and background yelling/screaming during the choruses. It'd be interesting to see them release an album with songs more in this style.

    Long Lost Feeling
This is definitely the slowest track on the album to this point and it's at a pretty good place in the tracklisting too since it follows up two of the most aggressive tracks on the album. It's a fine ballad, but there really isn't much else that I have to say about it.

    Bottom Of The Ocean
This was a very solid track and I really enjoyed Simon Wilcox's guest vocals (I was unfamiliar with her and just looked her up). The chorus is yet another one that is extremely catchy and I'm sure it'll be one that I find stuck in my head at some point in the near future.

    Can't Get You More Pregnant
This is a throwaway joke track. Musically, it's somewhat interesting, but I think they should probably just quit with the joke tracks (since they're not funny).

    Bored To Death (Acoustic)

This version was also live. I'm very familiar with this song from the regular version of the album and it's one of my favorite tracks on the album. I prefer the regular version to this live acoustic version, but this version was still a solid addition to the deluxe version of the album.

    -------------------

    Final Thoughts
All in all, this was a solid listen! Basically there are 10 new Blink-182 tracks here (the last 2 tracks really don't count) and I enjoyed them all for the most part. There are a couple songs here that I definitely think could have (and possibly should have) made the regular version. I can see why several of the other songs didn't make the regular album version and were saved for later. Not that they were bad songs, but mostly because they weren't standout tracks really.

My favorite tracks (in no particular order) are Last Train Home, 6/8, and Bottom Of The Ocean.

Next up: @JediMasterKevo182 tackles mewithoutYou's album Ten Stories.

*Legal Disclaimer* I've removed Thursday's album No Devolucion from @JediMasterKevo182 's contractual requirement. I have received word that I'm paired up with a certain @JediMasterKevo182 in the upcoming CMCS session and it was agreed on by all parties that he listen to (and review) No Devolucion as part of the upcoming session. I still have to figure out one more album for Kevo and I will be taking suggestions.

Great write up and I am glad you enjoyed these tracks! You happened to pick out my favorites too, Last Train Home and 6/8 specifically, but also Misery for one of Marks best bridges imo and Good Old Days For The chorus. @bradsonemanband will laugh at you for liking BOTO but my fiancée loves it too.

I think the most of the best California-era tracks are on the regular version but the deluxe is so much more consistent. Put together I’m surprised at how much I like that release. Album art is great too.

Edit: this reminds me I’m insanely late on @Larry David ‘s CMCS writeups and I apologize for that but they are in the oven.

I got asked if I wanted to sing for a new band forming in town, the guitarist bassist and drummer are all really versatile musicians and they've written some "classic rock/R&B" stuff that they want me to throw down on. Sounds neato.

Guitarist and bassist used to play in this band so I'm kinda stoked

Also with the kind of music floating around these parts, you know who would be really popular these days? This band. This song rules

@bradsonemanband doesn't even know the song "Dizzy" by Jimmy Eat World off the top of his head even though he's seen them 74 times live. Don't take too much stock in his song opinions.

Also the title track of California is his favorite Blink song...so....
