thats the spirit is one of the most blatant sell out albums ive heard in a while. i just fail to believe a band signs to a major and coincidentally pivots toward a completely radio friendly rock sound all on their own accord

 

yes and no.
Its still Phil writing around the death of his wife. but its a lot different than A Crow Looked At Me (from an avid fans perspective, anyway). ACLAM was very "this is happening now", while Now Only is much more reflexive. Im still pretty stunned by it. i want to do a huge write up in the coming weeks. Musically its totally different than A Crow in my opinion. That being said, if you really just couldnt get into ACLAM at all, this still might not be your cup of tea, but definitely give it a chance because i think this is a really special album and i think this is the stronger album. i also think there are 3 songs on this album that could be up there with the best songs Phil has ever written.

 

It definiteln Delivers the way it’s supposed to... it’s just hard to listen to that heavy lyrical content over and over you know?
