I mean I think if you’re gonna try and drag someone for allegedly pissing on Prince’s grave you should at least come with something more than: he sings “look at him now”.

I'm not trying to "drag" anyone. I just typed some thoughts I had about a really poorly-conceived song that is nowhere near as clear-cut as you seem to believe it is. If it was, there wouldn't be any question by anyone over what Rivers' intention was. But right here in this thread there are two people who disagree with your take that it is obviously about what you say it is.

And, again, you're doing the same thing you're accusing me of doing, only with a different part of the song, so I don't know why you're getting so angry over this. Calm the hell down.

My point, by offering my interpretation, was to point out that that it was open to interpretation. I’ve never said “obviously”. You were the one that offered up the word “decidedly”. That would lead me to believe that you don’t think the song could be about anything other than what you think it’s about. As in it’s “decided”.

I guess I now have to become the Chorus meme I hate more than anything else and say that "decidedly not" was implied to come along with "in my opinion" or, more accurately, "as I understand it"

At the end of the day, to me, the song comes across as saying "Look at everything Prince did and accomplished, it was all for nothing because he's dead now and the only people who benefitted from his success and get to enjoy the fruits of same were the vultures and hangers-on who got fancy cars and moved on to the next cash cow."

Granted the second-to-last portion of the song can be read as saying "death comes for everyone so nothing matters just dance," but that's a whole other nihilistic concept entirely.

Damn all this back and forth arguing.....I honestly didn't even put two and two together that the song was about Prince.

"funk rock riffs" and "paisley bones" were the dead giveaways

Same. It’s also the only song I can’t tell you how any part of goes even though I’ve heard the album like 5 times.

This is all I was asking for. I think this is a fantastic interpretation.

It's funny when a new Weezer album comes out and there's always tons of arguments, haha

I think it's because there aren't many bands on or around their level of popularity and fame that started their career with 2 pitch perfect albums and then meandered around in mediocrity (in most peoples' opinions) for the next 20 years straight.

Can anyone else think of a band that could be compared to their same band life? Foo Fighters maybe?

    all we have is time

"The Prince Who Wanted Everything" is the name of an Adventure Time episode. Pretty sure it's meant to be a play on the plot line, except in reference to the artist. Your interpretation doesn't seem that far off-- but I don't really see the issue with it. It's a dark portrayal of how celebrities are treated. I don't find it disrespectful at all.

Their discography has the weirdest patterns of highs and lows in regard to the order they happened in. I love it

Also, I think it's relevant to put in the context of his death. His family sued his doctor for failing to treat his opioid addiction and continuing to write him prescriptions.

"Where are they now? Oh In red corvettes.. They left the prince who wanted everything." In other words, it could have been prevented.. but those around him allowed him to have everything for their own gain. Just another angle to think about.

The more I comb through the lyrics I think this is a pretty fantastic outing for Rivers. I think you can stretch a lot of our discussion about “Prince” over most of the record (and a lot of past Weezer stuff). Rivers sings a lot about expectations, celebrity spotlight, depression etc. As always the music is meant to distract. Or the eccentric music is juxtaposed with the melancholy of the lyrics.

This isn’t new ground, I think most Weezer fans know this is their calling card (ala The Beach Boys). Just mentioning it again.

This is a solid weezer record. Especially with how fast their churning these things out, I’m okay with the occasional drops in quality.

  23. I love Everything Will Be Alright In The End and White to a slightly lesser extent, but am not familiar with the rest of their discography. Maybe it's time to remedy that.
