I must combat your use of the word “soulless” here. I just spun “Hurley” last night for the first time in a while and was very compelled by Rivers’ vocals. Super energetic performances all over it, and a certain tone to his voice that only really shows up on that record

 

Honestly I never even really listen to old Weezer anymore. Whenever I listen to these guys it’s generally White, PD, or the better Raditude/Hurley stuff.

Also, the Blue album came out when I was 10 and it introduced me to the fact that music could make me feel feelings. I can’t be objective at all - I love everything, and every record marks the passage of my life.

 

The earlier stuff really benefits from 90s production and being a bit more raw because it dials back Weezer’s cornball factor just the right amount.

 

Damn, Can't Knock The Hustle is a solid track, really catchy and sounds great. Makes me excited for what they put out next

 

ya, i really like the song. I'm looking forward to the vibe of the Black album, especially after Pacific Daydream, but I hope they go back to a heavier rock sound like Green/Maladroit/EWBAITE once the Black era is over. Thats how I like my Weezer.

 

I've probably listened to Hustle like 20 times this week. Can't get it out of my head.

Also there is a karaoke bar in Berlin that has the whole of Blue and Green. When I visit my friend sometimes we get drunk and do album runs.
