Weezer - SZNZ (March 20, June 21, September 22, December 21, 2022) Album • Page 65

  1. I don't think I can really rank these among their records, they just aren't memorable enough (while still having a number of songs that are better than their 2007 - 2012 run), but I do really feel like Spring is the least fun, most toothless music this band has made

I wish Autumn and Winter were just one big album and then maybe Blue Like Jazz, Thank You & Goodnight, The Sound Of Drums, and Wild at heart as bonus tracks…

Dorothy should of been on the release

The fact that everyone in here disagrees about which songs/EPs are the good ones completely justifies releasing the entire 28 song project imo

  4. Oh yeah, I mean I'm not mad about it existing, it's all very Weezer lol it's just not my favorite project of theirs, and that's okay

Even if I hated the entirety of the first 3 SZNS (which I don't) Winter would still validate it's existence for me

Winter is fantastic, weird to me that I only see people add at most 2 Winter songs on their custom track lists.

I Want a Dog is the best of the whole SZNZ project, but Iambic and Dark Enough to See the Stars deserve more love

  7. It sounds the closest to classic Weezer, but I still don't think it's memorable outside of the first three tracks

    I really don’t like I Want a Dog lol.

Autumn for me has basically no skips, and I like a few off Summer. Other than that…I never go back to any of these.

The singles What Happens After You, A Little Bit of Love, Records, etc, (which I don’t like) are the most realized songs on the project. They sound like songs that would be on a proper Weezer record.

IMO, the rest of the songs sound like songs we’d buy from a weird website Rivers designed and they’d be in a Dropbox folder called “Cleaned Up Versions of My Personal Fave Demos”.

yeah but those random tracks Rivers folder dropped have better stuff than he's put on 90% of his records lol

I think SZNZ as a whole is on par with, maybe even better than, EWBAITE. Doesn't quite touch the top tier, but it gets close.

Winter alone is probably about equal with EWBAITE for me, but as a whole project not close to that tier.

Almost every one of those bundles had a handful of absolute top tier Riv gems. Some of them even whole albums worth of stuff better than anything on SZNZ

It’s exhausting going through each of them, but soooooo worth it.

Hearing some songs evolve through the demo process is fascinating though. Like the version of Do You Wanna Get High that sounded like circus music lmao.

I can't remember which but one of the 100 versions of Rules of Life is the best Weezer leadoff single since Pork and Beans. Rivers truly is something else

For sure. I meant that they sound like they were semi-polished up by Rivers for some non-canon curiosity project and not like they were fleshed out into their final state for an official Weezer record. Even their songs/albums I don’t like, such as the main singles from the project, sound fuller and more refined than 80% of the rest of SZNZ.

Saw them Saturday in Worcester, they were somewhat surprisingly awesome. I figured it would be fun at worst, but they were much better than that. I have never in 20 years of seeing them seen Rivers (or Brian for that matter) so happy to be there. Between sznz and the memeification of getting weezered I kind of forgot they’re sick as hell. Rivers also way less weird now.

setlist same as every other show pretty much but this stretch was just absurd (in 2023 especially)

    Pink Triangle
    El Scorcho
You Gave Your Love to Me Softly
    Blast Off!
    Undone
solo acoustic Aloo Gobi (so much less corny lol)
    Susanne acoustic
    Only in Dreams

wouldve swapped out greatest man and thank you goodnight for songs that don’t suck but what can you do. Went from thinking I’d probably never see them again to probably catching them on their next tour.

I never have much of an urge to go see them with usual setlists but I should've gone to Worcester, only 45 minutes away ugh lol

I’m so god damn excited to see what the acoustic song will be at my date next week. He did Devotion the other night apparently and I would have shit a brick if I saw that.

yea I honestly probably would not have gone if I didn’t know they were playing blast off, but the show ended up being so good even beyond that
