You're simply arguing semantics here with me. You don't think people who led these movements met with leadership in government to negotiate and find what can be done? MLK and LBJ are probably recent histories greatest example of that. The nations prominent black leader and a dixiecrat able to find what worked to improve life for those facing injustice for centuries ( Martin Luther King Jr. on His Relationship with Lyndon Johnson ) it's how everything has gotten done in this country's history besides the Civil War. It is far from perfect but the way things get done. There is still a lot more that needs to be done obviously and these last 3 years have shown that to I think a majority of society.

I am on your side on these issues along with most people in this thread. I am simply presenting my view on how to get things done without the country going to complete chaos or staying status quo for those affected. Don't see a reason to be mocked.

Try talking less and listening more dude, you're being really combative. Which I think is funny and will continue to mock.

You don't get the civil rights movement without Malcolm X and the black panthers. One also forgets how, once Martin Luther King came out against Vietnam and expanded the scope of his message, Johnson abandoned him and liberals savaged him in the press. So, you can refer to MLK all you would like, but he was a part of the movement not the movement itself and when it came time to deal with structural issues, he was abandoned. Let us look at another quote from MLK:
A profound judgment of today's riots was expressed by Victor Hugo a century ago. He said, 'If a soul is left in the darkness, sins will be committed.

The guilty one is not he who commits the sin, but he who causes the darkness.'

The policymakers of the white society have caused the darkness; they create discrimination; they structured slums; and they perpetuate unemployment, ignorance and poverty.

It is incontestable and deplorable that Negroes have committed crimes; but they are derivative crimes. They are born of the greater crimes of the white society.

Think you need to look up what combative means. If being told to shut up and listen is the point of this thread then you guys can enjoy your echo chamber up in here, especially when typing my opinion to discuss issues and viewpoint (the point of most forums) is considered "combative".

If coming in expecting people to listen to you while disregarding everything they say isn't being combative, maybe you're right. What word would you use? Obtuse?

I woke up to a Facebook feed full of "friends" spouting off All Lives Matter or Blue Lives Matter. I can honestly say I've never been more disappointed in some of these people. I'm a firm believer that if someone posts something dumb on Facebook I should just hit "ignore this persons posts from now on" and move on but holy fuck that has been so difficult today.

This is a more eloquent version of what I wanted to post after reading this thread. Thank you.

What pisses me off in addition to what you said, are these "aw shucks, can't we all just get along" devil's advocate types on this site, who can't seem to grasp that no, not every single cop who has ever lived is a bottom feeding societal leech who goes out of their way to fuck over everyone they encounter. Just like, no, not every single man is a sexist or a rapist. However these institutions and systems are undeniably fucked up and corrupt. But the devil's advocate wants to die on the hill of "well I know this one cop and they're a good person!" or "I can see why someone would choose Trump over Hillary, even though IIIII wouldn't!!". It doesn't foster discussion, it's just a distraction towards semantics that takes away from the real issue at hand. There are several users who clearly have no interest in what Dom, Anna, Nate, and others have to say, but they'd rather play "what if???" pretend to be baffled when others disagree.
