The only other colored variant isn’t, the original press goes for ~$40.

  5. Yeah VMP doesn’t only do rare stuff. I think the point with them is that they’re limited pressings that usually come with a couple of extra goodies, additional artwork and stuff

right. but charging what they do for a subscription just for limited pressings is a bit odd. the price is worth it for the out of print stuff they do though.

I have only ever signed up for exclusives I really wanted that aren’t readily available or when they recently did a 3 month $55 deal, otherwise I don’t really find it worth it.

what websites do you use to shop for deals/track new releases?

i'm currently using the vinyldeals subreddit, but I'm not sure if there's one that caters to more of chorus' tastes.

I agree about the essentials sub. Those can usually be had on Discogs for a similar price (Though you roll the dice on quality contro, or something like 3 Feet High and Rising which is still v priceyl). The bargain comes from the $23 sub for RHH and Classics. Those records are far more likely to increase in value due to their lower pressing count. And AAA pressings in the Classics sub for $23 is an absolute steal. Most of the most expensive records in my collection comes from those two subs (my copy of Noname- Telefone is selling for like $250+ on Discogs right now). And early access to limited pressings (ie Freddie Gibbs/The Alchemist- Alfredo which sold out in like 30 mins) makes it worth it for me.

and yes when they press something like Spiritualized I remember why I signed up in the first place.

My main complaints about VMP is that they while their CS can be great they still haven’t devoted enough resources to handle the workload sometimes. Also their Obi strips are the most uninspired piece of paper ever and their RHH stencils are a waste. The Classics listening notes are great, even if the book design lacks imagination.

agreed. i just found myself when i was subbed (8 months i think?) only keeping like two essentials (arctic monkeys and clipse) and swapping for historical or RHH or, at least a few times, just with their prior releases. idk. i feel like for the price, i shouldn’t be only taking 1/4 of their main product haha

For sure. I didn’t swap for a long time but definitely swapped a few last year (Jim Sullivan was a weak pick). But this year I’ve kept 7/9 Essentials so far (swapped John Mayer and Caroline Rose, neither imo are worthy of the designation, definitely keeping BVSC and Spiritualized). I love Stevie Nicks and kept Bella Donna but thought that was an odd pick even though it’s an amazing record, you can find multiple copies at every local across the country. But I loved The Stooges, The Roots, The White Stripes (this one is still delayed due to COVID) and Dirty Projectors. Solid year.

i love the stooges and TWS too but that was kinda indicative of what i was saying. getting a splatter or maybe new artwork isn’t really worth it to me, especially when i already have those LPs bc they’re readily available haha

Yea I understand completely. I usually view it as I’m paying $$ for Classics and I’m getting the Essentials record as the $23 sub. Makes it easier to stomach.

Ok I caved and ordered some vinyl from Rise's Buy 1 Get 1 sale. Got Knuckle Pucks - Shapeshifter (purple) and The Early November's - Lilac (coke bottle green pinwheel).

I'm getting a little too crazy with my vinyl purchases this past month. It's basically replaced what would have been my concert expenses for 2020. So much for saving money lol
