Audio Technica LP60 is $100. just got mine and I love it so far

I second this. I stated this a few pages back, but my experience has been really positive despite some mixed reviews and things that I’ve seen out there. I definitely wouldn’t go any cheaper than the LP60 though. It is kind of the absolute minimum in my opinion.

Their QC for that table must suck; as I've stated previously my experience with the LP60 was absolutely awful

Really love mine! Will upgrade to the 120 eventually though.

What issues did you have? this is my first standalone turntable and it's still new, so I'm sure I could run into issues, but so far I have no complaints.

The speed would just constantly change/become too fast. HLNPIT was my test record, so I've listened to it enough that I know when the Intro is off. The speed adjustment is a tiny screw on the bottom of the table so it was just way too inconvenient to have to adjust it every few days (ie. it was in a position that was literally impossible to adjust while a record was playing/without having to unplug everything)

Memories are nice, but that's all they are. Prestigious

Maybe with my tax money I'll finally get a new record player since I don't have one anymore. I used to have the LP60, but my ex kept it. I want to get an upgrade over that one, but without breaking the bank on a $300 LP120. Any other recommendations out there?

I know Denon had one for somewhere in the $200 range on Amazon and it's probably somewhat of a step up from the 120. That was a sale so I don't know if it's still true.

To be fair, quite a few tables that don't have strobe dots to constantly adjust the platter speed will have adjustment screws that either require you to remove the platter or turn the table over. You can always print off a strobe disc and adjust from there.

Also as far as "budget" turntables, this list from Reddit is good. IMO, your most noticeable difference in sound quality improvements will come from 1. your turntable and 2. your speakers. If you can get something like the Pro-Ject Debut Carbon DC with the Ortofon 2M red, or even the u-Turn upgraded, not only will the sound quality improve, but the wear and tear on your records will decrease as well.

If you can find the Denon DP-300f for the $200 sale price still, jump on that. It's automatic and a solid table. If not, get a u-Turn table and add the cue-arm upgrade.

It wasn't a matter of struggling to adjust it, it was moreso the fact that I had to do it nearly every time I used the table.

But now I  my Orbit (though I miss the "auto turnoff" feature of the LP60)

Yeah that auto turnoff was something. I also kind of miss that it had a button to change the speed where my debut carbon i have to remove the platter to play a 45.

For those that are interested, this site has the Debut Carbon for $299/free shipping. It's "b-stock" which basically means it's still factory sealed but the packaging is slightly damaged

My two cents is to be patient and watch craigslist for something older if you are on a budget. I'm pretty new at this but picked up an older Technics belt-driven turntable for $40 back in the fall. It has a counterweight and auto-shutoff. Picked up a receiver with phono input for $10 from Goodwill (Onkyo TX-8511) and speakers (Boston Acoustics a40 Series II) from Goodwill for $12. Didn't know anything about these components at the time, just googled them on my phone from Goodwill to see reviews/eBay value. Now I spend free time scouring thrift shops for stereo equipment to flip on eBay and use the profits to buy more records.

Good point. If you have the patience to scour Craigslist and eBay or your local Facebook swap and shops, you can find really good equipment. It's probably going to take some TLC, and some repairs or readjustments, but if you have the time and skills to do those repairs, it's worth it. I just check audiokarma for reviews to see what's valuable or not

I do not like the idea of having to make adjustments. I'm not comfortable with that

The only real readjustments are just re-balancing the tone arm or realigning a cartridge, both of which take a minute or two and there's a whole bunch of youtube videos on.

Got a super clean Nikko STA-4030 off of Craigslist this morning to replace the built-in preamp on my AT-120LP. This thing sounds great!. I'm still toying with the idea of pulling the preamp out of the table altogether as has been recommended in some forums, but for now I'm pretty content with the sound.

I also found some Bang & Olufsen S 55 speakers on CL that I'm hoping I'll be able to get my hands on next week.

Just picked it up yesterday. I had every Jimmy album (that's been pressed) but it and Damage, so now I'm just short one.

nice, i still need a couple to finish my JEW collection. but i have everything from Clarity up to Invented. I have yet to grab Damage because its one of those albums i always see at the record store and i think to myself "oh thatll be here next time too, so this time i need to try and find something a little harder to find or limited"... does anyone else every have that inner battle with themselves at the record store haha?

Best Buy has a deal online right now where you save $25 off a $100 order if you use Visa Checkout (sales tax is excluded so your product total needs to be $100). After tinkering with my cart a little bit it looks like it will pencil out to $14 per LP (6 total) which is pretty good. Shipping is free.

edit: Obviously this would be for albums that you don't care about which pressing you get.

    Motel. Money. Murder. Madness.

I finally finished my JEW collection a few months backs. I had been looking for an original pressing Static Prevails for years, I even passed on one maybe 10 years ago, but finally a cellophaned copy with the bonus 7" came into a local store.

Hopefully I can get the second half of my collection signed this week when I see them.

The problems with the AKAI BT100 are insane and I can't quite believe they've let that product out into the public. There's a whole forum of people who have had the issues with platter speeds being inconsistent and a bunch of us have had up to three replacements, all with the same problem. Yet they pretty much refuse to address it or help. So glad I just got a refund in the end.
