LA Noire is a true ahead of its time game looking back on it. The motion capture was truly remarkable and the investigation and interrogation segments are genuine highlights as well. It also has probably the best digital recreation of that era of LA we may ever get, the attention to detail here is exceptional and worth a proper revisit on its own merits. It’s not perfect and has a few flaws that gives it demerits but in an era of AWOL Rockstar, its worth a revisit.

    Player’s Log:
I started Kena: Bridge of Spirits this morning and love it so far. It’s gorgeous for an indie game and I like the exploration. Parts of it feel like 3D zelda games. I had it downloaded for a while from PS Plus and never got around to it. I wish I did sooner.

  4. Forgot about LA Noire but I’m pretty sure my brother played it at the time and hearing that it featured many actors from Mad Men is getting me curious. That « press X to doubt » meme comes from it right?

I liked L.A. Noire a lot at the time. Mafia 3, which I adored, reminded me of it.

I loved L.A. Noire when I played it and I've regretted not finishing it. One day I'll do that.

Question: What are some good introductory RPG's? My son has been into them on Roblox and Fortnite but wants to branch out into "REAL" ones. Nothing that requires a lot of menus, etc. Basically just combat and RPG elements. I have already thought of something like Borderlands.

  8. Maybe Indivisible? More of a metroidvania with RPG elements. Huge cast of playable characters. Simple combat. Great story.

That might be too much for him but a good option for sure.

Borderlands would be a bit too crass for a kid imo. Look into Children of Morta, it’s on pretty much everything and it’s a solid dungeon crawler built around a family trying to stop an ancient evil.

I feel like if we are going to go down that route, Hades is way more compelling esp with regards to difficulty and art style.

Just get him on heckin' Final Fintasy XIII and let the kid become the dweeb he was always meant to be. Also the Xbox Series version of that game is bonkers.

It took me some time to get to grips with the rhythm of the combat but that's because I fucking suck at coordination with button presses.

I also love this one. It has perfect pacing / progression, especially for newcomers to the genre. It has light monster collecting, light crafting and very good turn based combat and exploration.
Plus it's cute as shit and very, very wholesome.

... and it's available on every platform under the sun.

If you have a switch I think the Paper Mario games are supposed to be really approachable and fun RPGs also.

Pokémon Scarlet/Violet or Sword/Shield for Switch. They are very kid friendly and fans complained they held your hand too much. I still found them super fun. I haven’t played the Let’s Go games, so idk about those.

Yeah Paper Mario or Super Mario RPG on Switch are fantastic beginner RPGs that can still be appreciated, even if you’re not a beginner, because they’re just fun.

I agree with this too lol. People didn’t like that they didn’t have a choice about what happened at the end, but I think it would have taken away the overall theme and message of the story.
