I put an unhealthy amount of hours into power wash simulator and it was one of my favorite games of 2022

  2. Power Chord is really underwhelming so far, I'm considering getting it refunded even though I got it on sale. Monster Train and Banners of Ruin do it so much better

  10. Moonscars feels too much like a Hollow Knight/Blasphemous clone. the art is nice but the combat is too difficult, i just don't have the patience for it rn. mayyyybe it's like Death's Gambit where it gets easier with more skill points. Not really digging it atm tho

There should be a movement to make 2000’s gaming mag ads for modern games because that looks awesome.

Shout out to COD for making people pay for an extra battle pass for Squid Game before the next season starts, most of that shit isn’t that great anyway beyond the weapon blueprints and that shadow figure guy’s skin that does look cool.

  14. been looking to complete one or two more smaller games before I dive into Jedi Survivor. Sable, Wavetale, Power Chord, Moonscars, Scourgebringer, and Stray Gods aren't really keeping my attention, I think I'll return to them later if the mood ever hits. i keep forgetting i got The Ascent through a Humble Bundle. I'd been meaning to play that on Gamepass when I still had Gamepass.

The Ascent is lukewarm dog water and I agree with your assessment of those games too.

Is the new season of Squid Games actually worth watching or are people with no taste pulling my chain about it?

Fired up Stalker 2 on my Series X and the crushed blacks on my fancy TV just break my heart.

It’s honestly like a modern 2000’s game, 2000’s aesthetic with modern gaming ideas and it’s worth playing on that alone.

I should clarify I meant in a YouTube video. They seemed like they were having a good time though. Hard to be sure how much of that is just for the content.

Some games I have played recently:

LEGO Batman: The very first PC game I ever played was LEGO Island. We did not have a computer when I heard about it, and I copied down the exact specs that the game recommended and asked my parents to get it, only to find out that that would be a really weak computer at the time. There was just so much more freedom and possibility compared to console games. I was disappointed when I began to realize that these sorts of games are just genre games with LEGO slapped on.

L.A. Noire: The attention to detail is on par with other Rockstar greats, and it is fun to play what is essentially a Mad Men reunion, but over time it starts to get repetitive. There is no real consequence to being bad at reading people other than not leveling up, which is mostly meaningless anyway. I will just never stop being impressed what games can do with faces these days, and this is an "old" game in the first place. There was a time when the Goldeneye faces were enough for us.

Hollow Knight: Deserving of all the praise it gets. The backdrop and music are beautiful and the gameplay loop is as addictive as any Metroidvania. Unfortunately, I have the same problem with it I have with so many indie games: they are just too hard. I know a lot of it comes from them trying to recapture games from the past, but it is so convenient that modern games are offering more and more sliders and difficulty settings. Books don't lock you out of the next chapter and movies don't delete scenes because you didn't beat the last one. Keep hard difficulties for people who want the challenge and find ways to let everyone experience them.

Alien: Isolation: I played as far as I could, but ultimately it is just too scary for me. I watched the rest online and it is a very impressive game and fits comfortably close to the good Alien games.
