This is all true and I definitely don't typically buy games at full price anyway.

I actually depressed myself a bit because I'm trying to think of it in terms that isn't disrespectful to the time and effort the creators put into it, but that's a fool's errand because it's not like it's the creators that reap the rewards of the success.

I want to pay what their effort is worth, not what the suits upstairs want to fleece me for.

I had no idea a South Park game was even coming out until skill up mentioned it on the news show last week. Did they just have no marketing budget?

 

I remember seeing the original trailer and thought maybe it was a take on the OG N64 game or something? and never seen another thing about it until reviews started giving it like a 3/10 lmao

 

I had zero idea it was coming out either. Clearly there is a reason.

I totally saw that South Park trailer and was flabbergasted that anyone thought trying to polish the turd the creators of the show hated the first time around was a great idea.

 

A game is absolutely worth the $60-$70 range if I can get 15+ hours out of it. I don't do multiplayer much, and I mostly like a good old fashioned linear adventure (with some open world games that can be focused on the main story when you want them to be - GOW / RDR2 / Cyberpunk etc). I think the perfect campaign length is between 15-25 hours.

However, everyone's habits are different and 15 hours may not go far for someone else. For me, that's a solid couple of weeks of gaming time and with how much other entertainment avenues cost comparatively, I still think it's fair.

I think the range of gaming styles, and what's considered value, is always going to drive this conversation in different ways. Someone who loved BG3 and sank 400 hours in it, would probably be annoyed at a 15 hour campaign done in a weekend costing the same price.

There's also barely 5-6 games a year I want to play so that's $3-400 at new prices vs someone who is into multiple games and gets at least one a month.
