lol yah it's a kid who recently blew up as the top viewed streamer on twitch. He plays R6 Siege

I can't stand his content at all but its for kids half my age, but watched a podcast he did and was very surprised how calm and respectful and well spoken he is off stream.

I could go on and on about what a beautiful ending that was. Tears were shed.

But instead I'd like to talk a moment about how creative I think this series is with the question of fate.

I can't remember if Sky did anything significant, but Zero/Azure really tackled this question of destiny hard with the revelation that the SSS died at the end of Zero and everything afterward is because KeA rewrote reality to create a scenario where the SSS survived.

Cold Steel goes a step further in making the player complicit. After the battle with Osborne, Rean is fated to die as the Sacrifice to save the world from Ishmelga. Crow and Millium join him. And then everyone cries, there's a very sad ending song, and it ends abruptly.

This is because you're supposed to have completed every sidequest in the game. If you do, you're given a final sidequest that gives you a particular story-relevant MacGuffin. After the "bad ending", if you reload your save, you can choose to fight fate, giving Rean a different option for resolution that ends with a true final fight against Ishmelga, and with Rean, Crow, and Millium all surviving.

I think that's really cool and interesting. What's even more interesting this is the result of a compromise between the development team and the president of Falcom. The president of Falcom was not fond of Ys Origins requiring players to beat the game twice to unlock the true final route, and so I guess he balked at the idea of repeating the same mistake here, so rather than have players play the whole game over, they let you reload after the Osborne fight.

I actually kind of like the idea of needing to sit through the bad ending to be able to get the good ending, so you can see the fate you averted. Nine Hours, Nine Persons, Nine Doors did something similar, although that was a little more gameplay-baked. But the same idea, I think.

However, that being said, what I don't like is having to reload the epilogue to watch an additional scene hidden the first time around. That's a dick move, Falcom.

Anyway, I'm not going to start Reverie tonight as I'd barely get anywhere in it, but I'm excited to start it! From what I understand, it's a lot like Sky The 3rd in that it's tying up all the loose ends from the Crossbell and Cold Steel games, and involves a lot of the same mechanics.

Unlike the 3rd, it features three intertwined storylines: One involving Rean and Class VII, one involving Lloyd and the SSS, and a third involving a bunch of new people. And I can go back and forth between them as is my wish.

Also, due to the nature of the game, this is the first Trails game since Sky to not feature any bonding scenes. The days of Rean Schwarzer and Lloyd Bannings, harem kings extraordinaire, are at an unfortunate end.

 

idk if I’m reading this right but basically progression doesn’t carry over for my cousins in story mode on dead island 2

so once we reached a point in my story it kicked them out because they were too far behind in their stories absolutely dumb logic

 

Decided to pick back up Lords of the Fallen to try and finish before FF7 on Thursday. Just made it to Bramis Castle, in the home stretch

still think Lies of P is way better but I still have enjoyed my time with this game. The Umbral mechanic is genuinely so cool.

 

This all just sucks man. The industry is just so broken.

Getting back into replaying Returnal. Forgot how fun this game is. I stopped playing after I beat the first Biome and never got too far in the 2nd.. hopefully I can finally beat it sometime this year lol

Not disappointed by the Twisted Metal live service game being canned, but hugely upset by the sheer amount of people being laid off. This industry is the worst right now. I think it needs a reset.

I loved this franchise so much, but it's been 12 years since the last game and I've given up hope on getting another game at all, let alone it not being some kind of online service trash.
