For real though, I think doing a 2D animated style would be much cooler than what that it is but that’s just my opinion. Plus, I do kinda wonder what this game has gameplay wise that can compete with the current crop of fighters.

well, it's a midnight launch on console, whereas on PC it comes out at midnight CET elsewhere. So for me it comes out on PC "only" 0 hours early.

At their core they are all open world/sandbox games with varying degrees of difference. All the comments above all valid.

 

I mean if we ignore all the features that make a game stand apart from other games in it's genre then yes they are all the same.

Well those are not Sandbox games...

 

Beyond the open world aspect, there's tiny things about the HFW world that are insanely similar to both of those games. The vista points, as an example, are so similar to memories in BOTW. Machine Strike and melee pits are similar takes on Gwent and the fight club things in W3.

Machines are basically Guardians, platforming up rocks feels similar to BOTW, Cauldrons feel similar to shrines, albeit much more vast. The story/quest flow obviously feels similar to W3, as well as potions/upgrades/etc. I just keep bouncing between comparisons to both of those games in my head. Funny enough, those are my two favorite games.

 

I'm just sick of all these quest markers and hours of badly written dialogue and the amount of exposition in every fucking triple A open world game. Dying Light 2, Assassins Creed and to an extent even Lost Ark are all guilty of this. Like, just fucking chill with all the typing. No one needs all that.
Writing in video games has it's place, but I think we've crossed the rubicon to it almost becoming a writer's medium.

Let me go around and figure shit out. Build an interesting world. Come up with fun activities and systems.

Also release BOTW2 this year cowards.

 

Anyone play wasteland 3? I just got it, but I am finding it insanely difficult. One of my characters is melee and it seems for a lack of a better phrase... absolutely fucking useless? In the early fights, the melee character can't do anything but move from cover to cover, which often isn't full cover so you lose HP each turn, and by the time you're in melee range, you do a few weak ass slaps, and then move back to cover, or stand exposed to die. As soon as I find another weapon, I'm going ranged for both.

Anyway, the game seems super fun as it's like xcom2 combat but with a bit of DOS2 thrown in. I couldn't get into xcom (though I didn't give it much of a chance), but I loved DOS2. I really like what I have seen of the world so far and it's campiness. I think I'll have a blast if I can figure out combat and don't have to keep restarting.

 

Hit the first major story beat for HFW. It looks like the Odyssey never exploded and humanity continued to advance outside the solar system? Not sure why they would initiate Hades to wipe all life and start over though.

Yeah, but there's also only been like two exclusives so let's see how this stacks up in a few years once there are more games and supply for PS5 is higher so more people actually have the system
