Just finished world 2

My legs hurt lol

 

I have had it for like two weeks and still yet to play it

 

so smash community is completely gone now huh

Along with this, my absolute favourite gamer argument is about the value of a game being in its £/hour ratio. People arguing that a game with dozens of fetch quests and filler to get it to 100 hours to beat is automatically better than a tight 10-15 hour life changing experience. "I'm not paying £50 for a game that I can beat in 20 hours". Their loss really.

 

A price increase is long overdue. Stagnating prices along with skyrocketing development costs have been bad for the industry, especially from a creative standpoint. It is also what brought us in-game purchases. The only problem is that those are here to stay now regardless of how high the base price is.

EDIT: Doesn’t mean it isn’t annoying.

 

yeah too many games are too long now because of this. it's lame. 10-15 hours is pretty much the perfect length for most games.

 

is that sentiment why looter shooters and jrpgs are so insufferable

I don’t think it makes a lot of sense to say that a certain length is good and others aren’t. It depends on the game. A 15 hour game can feel too long and a 70 hour game can feel too short. Preferring short games is a different story of course.

Also, I agree that the dollar to hour ratio is not what makes a game good or bad, but dismissing it entirely can hint towards a certain level of privilege that does not apply to all gamers. Plenty buy long games because it’s either that or nothing to play for most of the month. Also, if a game’s selling point is its core gameplay loop first and foremost, more content often does increase what you might call quality.

 

There's loads of long games that would suck if they were only 10-15 hours

 

One thing that I do hope is reduced in AC Valhalla are the outposts.

 

Hellblade cemented the fact that short games can be absolutely incredible.

But I like plenty of games that are very short, sometimes less than an hour

 

I thought 6/8 hours was short!

 

I'm not a big fan of that game. To me the only thing that's satisfying about it is the combat and there's way too much time spent without it. I have no problem with “walking simulators” in general btw.

 

I want my JRPGs to be at least 50 hours
