So I was back in St. Louis this past weekend and convinced my dad to play forza because he used to always play driving games when I was younger and growing up. So he got my older brother (age 31) to give him his Xbox one he never uses and got game pass to play forza, so then later me and my little brother (age 13) are looking at all the games on gamepass and I told him to snag hollow knight since he got to see me play a little bit of it when I was home three months ago and seemed intrigued. So he started it while I was there and I helped him get on his feet and directed him in the early game of what to do and where to go, so the morning I left he had found the first boss and was having trouble and said he wasn’t gonna keep playing, I was like okay that’s fine. Since I got home on Tuesday he has literally been texting me or calling me every night for hours about what he’s doing and what’s he’s done since last time he played and asking me more questions and tips of what to do and where to go, he is fully hooked and it is beautiful to see. It is a challenging game but he’s a smart kid and will figure it out, it’s just satisfying to watch him fall in love with unique games like that because he mostly just plays mlb the show and nhl

 

Like I said I’m playing through for the first time now and am floored, the remastered original from 2007 looks fucking gorgeous and plays buttery smooth, the combat is so satisfying some of the best third person gunplay I’ve ever experienced. The quality of this remaster gives me some hope for BioWare since it’s apparent that they still care deeply about their biggest IP’s (ME and dragon age) so hopefully they can correct course with DA4 and get back to being a studio that makes me excited for a new game, not nervous

For what it’s worth, Anthem *played* incredibly well.

 

I’m sure I could have plenty of fun with it tbh, but it’s just a weird game from a studio typically synonymous with incredible rpg storytelling and gameplay. the dragon age games are way deeper on the rpg side of things than games like Skyrim and the Witcher

 

It goes for 3-4 bucks sometimes. Hella worth it.

but yeah clearly unfinished and a mess, but that core gameplay is *chefs kiss*

BioWare was not the right studio to make that game and frostbite wasn’t the right engine to do … really anything in.

 

Inquisition is one of my favorite games of all time and I kind of love the style the frostbite engine gives it, it’s way more distinct and stylistic than origins and 2 which are pretty plain and bland to look at.

 

Oh no, I love the way frostbite looks. Probably my favorite engine looks wise, it just takes a prohibitively gargantuan effort to wrestle the results out of it.

 

Oh yeah inquisition has its flaws and a lot of it has to do with having to use and learn frostbite in the middle of development

 

Same exact thing with Anthem, and ironically, the latest Battelfield because everyone who knows anything about that engine left DICE lol

the new game by ex-DICE staffers (Arc Raiders) is using UE5 for a reason haha

I’m trying to get him into halo since I started playing the first halo when I was only 10 so infinite should be fine for a 13 year old. My parents started letting him play cod but they used to not let him play anything too realistic with its violence but they don’t really care anymore. Which is funny because I’m pretty sure I was watching my older brother play grand theft auto when I was 9 lol

 

I would not have had the patience for Hollow Knight at 13, barely have the patience for it now. Great game, tho

 

eh, i definitely grew up playing more challenging games than what my little brother has been playing and think he'll be fine with my guidance

 

Plus he would have a whole backlog of halo games to play and the series goes everywhere

 

Beat the Brothers Grimm!!!

 

The bosses are done perfectly in Halo Infinite in that you have no idea they are coming and forces you to explore the map to find weapons and vehicles. This campaign is brilliant.

 

In other news about Back 4 Blood. They added a new patch that massively changed the game and makes it a lot more balanced and enticing to play. It definitely came out of the gate kinda meh, but it's a lot better now and has some fun holiday stuff too!

 

Sweet. Was hoping for a patch. When you get a good group together game is a blast

 

They changed some of the difficulty things, a ton of cards, etc

The patch notes are huge. Dozens of changes.
