I remember when games were played just for fun.

 

I mean in some aspects games are kinda better now I guess. You can't help but feel content enough w/ the medium as it currently is honestly.

 

Apex is very fun, I adore it

 

Not quite sure what this means in relation to my post. I'm just being faux-pessimistic about all this talk over professional gamers with a stick up their bum.

Truthfully, I think it's cool that gaming has become mainstream and legitimate enough that we have national competitive teams taking this seriously, but the problem is treating it too seriously, and forgetting that games are first and foremost for the average Joe to have fun and kill some time.

It puts me in mind of a professional footballer getting pissed in a little league game. Not a perfect analogy, I admit. But anyway.

 

I don't care if a game like OW or Apex "caters" to a casual audience. If it's still fun, more people play it and I can have a good time with friends that all that matters to me. Pros and competitive people need to understand that's not why these games were built. They were built to have larger player bases and to make money. That's it.

I get a bit weird when talking about this stuff sometimes, my bad. Sounds like a good take to me, I agree for the most part.

For whatever reason I couldn't really get into the online competitive stuff until recently w/ some current/last gen games, Apex included. I wonder if one reason why I’m kinda uninterested in the medium now sometimes is because the stuff I'll wanna play the most will probably start being made several years from now, but not sure. I think I’m content enough right now tbh.

Funny you mention the little league analogy, as zoomer prodigies do seem to stomp my shit in often before the five minute mark in my Apex sessions, forcing me to wait out the rest of the game, but I've still enjoyed my time with it. Experiences like that still tend to be more fun now compared to my time w/ online action games of previous gens ^_^

 

Wait, what? You know you can leave penalty free, right? Even in ranked, you can leave once you can't be revived anymore (in regular mode, staying past that point doesn't even have any benefits).

Yeah, a problem with a lot of multiplayer games are: the longer it's been out, the better people get at the game. My main multiplayer games over the past few years (Overwatch and R6S) have suffered from that problem but it's not really something that can be fixed. Even casual games turn into complete sweatfests on there, especially when people can make smurf accounts so easily on console.

 

Call of Duty suffers with that a lot as well, trying to play Cold War was absolutely miserable

 

I used to love making new accounts on Halo 2 and wrecking people lol.

 

I didn't :p. well I stopped playing online competitive in the PS3 generation early on after trying it a few times, and got into it for the first time with Titanfall 2. But now that I know that about Apex I'll definitely be playing it more often than before. ^_^

found my 2ds and pokemon x and moon....tempting...i havent played a pokemon game since like the gameboy advance era lol

 

X is outstanding. I really dont like Moon as a game but the dex is fantastic.

 

Sun/Moon are my least favorite Pokémon games by far
