what’s the ideal scenario here? everyone stops buying activision blizz products and the company goes under and all those people that were victims of the culture at the company are now out of a job in an industry that’s going to be actively hostile to any of them looking for employment elsewhere? im not saying im going to keep supporting them or playing their games, I’m absolutely not, I just don’t know if burn the entire company down does much for those who have suffered the most because of the company

 

I think this is a really great point that raises the question of how you protest one part of a company without indirectly hurting the parts you want to support, or how you support parts without indirectly benefitting the ones you protest. The most direct way consumers can affect a company is by denying them profit, but as you say, this could harm the employees you want to defend. I'm not sure what the answer is.

 

Yeah I mean obviously it feels terrible to play anything by that company right now and I would never suggest anyone actively go out and buy their stuff, but perhaps if they were to actually let their workers unionize that would be a way to make it less terrible to play their games? not that that would ever happen but like I said the people who have already suffered at the company will be suffering the most, the people at the top have more money than they know what to do with already

 

I'm going to assume that Activision is publicly traded, so what needs to happen is that shareholders get annoyed enough that they start demanding that Activision cleans house, which can happen and is getting more likely

 

"Burn the Company to the Ground" doesn't mean it goes out of business and everyone goes jobless. It means there has to be a top-to-bottom cleaning of house so that everyone responsible for the conduct described in the lawsuit, as well as everyone on whose watch that conduct occurred, is gone and replaced. Especially Bobby Kotick.

Since that's never going to happen, people have to make their own individual choices about what kind of conduct is acceptable for an entity that they are giving money to.

 

I put another 15 hours into No Man's Sky and came to the conclusion that it is still boring as fuck.

I’ve given Blizzard money every month for almost 15 years straight. I had zero issue canceling my sub but I also know some people aren’t willing to do that and that’s okay.

I know a ton of people who are really struggling with this stuff and have used WoW as an outlet for over a decade. It’s really shitty.
