I've been wanting to finally get a switch but also been scared for this exact reason. But if the next system is completely different I'll probably still want a switch I guess

Yeah announcement this year with release next year is what I got too. I posted about this in the Nintendo thread.

 

I would be shocked if the new switch isn’t backwards compatible. It’s the new industry standard and Nintendo has a history of doing it when possible. There doesn’t seem to be any major issue with the current game carts either.

The current switch has a huge install base and I think the new switch is still close to the Switch Pro from a couple years ago. This is why there hasn’t been new dev leaks. I doubt much will be exclusive to the new switch for a while since they won’t want to lose their giant install base.

Nintendo sells so much first party software (even compared to Microsoft and Sony), the new system is gonna be an iteration not a huge change. Nintendo’s B-tier occasionally has comparable sales to someone else’s A-tier. Luigi’s Mansion 3 and Splatoon 3 have sold a comparable amount of copies as God Of War Ragnorak for example.

I’ve tried a couple times, and the sequel once. Idk, every time I play a non-FromSoft souls-like game it just feels off. I should probably just enjoy it for what it is and manage my expectations

 

I got it on gamepass but really don’t know anything about it beyond that. Will look into this tho!

 

Nioh 2 was a little too much. I couldn’t manage the stances and everything, didn’t make it far but I damn it I wanted to.

 

I didn't make it past the big enemy in the courtyard or whatever area in the first area.

wo long looks superb. havent played a souls type game since i bailed on dark souls remastered last year and this may get me back into the genre

 

I love those Team Ninja games but I definitely prefer the FromSoft games

 

Of all the horror games out there ripe for a movie, this one makes the least sense to me.

 

It actually, surprisingly, has a decent amount of lore to it.

It's just not an interesting premise based on the horrifically boring/repetitive gameplay.

 

I mostly agree. The combat is usually on point but I feel like I take for granted some of the things From seems to do effortlessly well (worldbuilding, level design, aesthetics, enemy design, ect.)

 

I got to finish the Wolong demo just now and I foresee a lot of game pass enjoyers simply quitting at the tutorial boss. That’s gotta be up there for intro bosses in any Soulslike game I’ve played lmao

 

i think fromsoft games are very unique and obviously a higher quality than the vast majority of games out today but third person action combat games have been around forever, fromsoft just perfected the formula and the rest of the industry took notice. i mean for fuck's sake god of war 2018 doesnt exist as it does without the souls series. compare that to the third person action combat games from the OG god of war era and its clear what fromsoft did to the industry. all that is to say, these other games that fall under a "soulslike" tag are just other third person action combat games. not everything needs to be held to the standard set by one of the best studios in the industry. not that a lot of soulslikes dont fall short of being good, but its possible to be a good even great game without reaching the heights of the souls series.
