Oh, I think I can unlock that guy. Maybe I should go for that?

It’s a roguelite so no. Most stages require you to beat the boss aka getting to the 25 minute mark and beat said boss. What I mean when I say “go as fast as possible” is use the levels early on to level up whatever weapons you like sooner so you can get farther in the into level. When a weapon is “evolved” it’s essentially a beast. I have had at least 6 fully evolved and it’s madness on the screen.

Level is the word of the day.

I mean, some of this I know, although TIL there's a boss of the level. That's news.

But when I enter a stage, I look for weapons I like, and then when they come up again, I level them, but I have a tendency to spread the love around when it comes to leveling things, and I'm wondering if that's a mistake.

Like, if I see certain weapons I'll grab them, but otherwise I'll just level whatever looks best. I mean, it's random chance what options I get, so it's not like I have any other choice.

Yes I had a hell of a run after I unlocked that one and got to level 42 with ease when my previous record was 20

You are going to be far more effective if you stick to a few weapons or defensive items rather than spreading the love. Also, look for the glowing enemies and get the treasure chest, it’s essentially a free spin. They are also the enemies you need to evolve items. Also, I’m going to blow your mind but if you level up two symbiotic items it’s makes them even stronger. Eventually you will unlock a guide that shows you the combos you have unlocked and possible new ones.

I understand the game as a game-like thing, I'm just impatient.

I also low level feel bad because I know how much Nate is loving this game and I feel like I'm mildly letting him down by not being nearly as into it.

Nah, you are good. I just want you to give it a fair shot and not just hate it because it’s collectively adored. It’s easy to do that with things that are hyped.

You don't have to worry. I am the last person to ever dislike something for a petty reason like that.

The three big things to succeed in VS is hero choice, weapon choice/evolution, and boosting the perma stats. Weapons combos are also a factor but not as important imo

I definitely made a mistake and that I am now rectifying in waiting so long to play Horizon: Forbidden West. I was still finishing Zero Dawn when it first came out and had other things take priority in the meantime, but after the first mission I’m already so hooked.

one thing in VS i found helpful on a certain run was augmenting my armor and health regen to the point where the large swarms either didn't take my health down at all or very, very little and combining that with garlic and/or bible

also increasing range you pick up items is ridiculously useful especially if youre heading in the opposite direction of the enemies spawning

    Player's Log: Arrog.

100%. A very short Amanita-style game. Not a lot to really say about it.

Now I'm going to play this:

Player's Log: An Airport For Aliens Currently Run By Dogs

Finally, a game that mixes the surreal atmosphere of being the only human couple living in a world run by talking dogs with the real life terror that comes from oh my god I'm going to miss my flight!

I've unlocked 16 of 22 achievements, but I'm not sure if that's actually an indicator of progress, because I don't actually know what signifies progress in this game. Dogs of all kinds are just giving me stuff, but I don't know when or if I can use any of it.

I think the idea is that I use the items I'm given on the clerks when I try to get to my flight, because there are different clerks and they all seem to want different stuff.

The annoying thing is that the run button is tied to pressing the left stick inward, which is always a super uncomfortable way to go about this shit. And when you're trying to make sure you get to your gate on time with your boarding pass, running is crucial. I am not making this up. You will miss your flight if you're not on time. Tears will be wept.
