Could not agree with this more. I've never understood critics using the generic concept of "franchise fatigue" to knock a series' most recent entry down a few pegs in terms of review score.

If the usual critic who covers a given franchise for a publication is truly fatigued, give the review to a different writer.

i think it’s a perfectly fair thing to take into account since nothing exist in a vacuum.
    But neither does RDR2 ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

"Franchise fatigue" has absolutely nothing to do with the quality of any individual entry in a given series, though.

Especially in a series with pretty different games. At that point it’s just branding fatigue which is even sillier.

I just don't understand how the concept would even factor into a review. Like what if a hypothetical series was constantly releasing 10/10 games every time? After the tenth 10/10 does the eleventh game automatically get an 8/10 because of franchise fatigue?

Judge each game on its individual merits. The only relevance prior games in the series have are in terms of comparing what the newest version either improves or screws up. That isn't franchise fatigue, that's just evaluating the growth/evolution of the series.

You definitely have to compare them if it's the next step in a series. Madden has literally not gotten any better in like 6 editions.

right but that isn't the same thing as "franchise fatigue".

Cod released 10/10 games every 6 months there for a little while and people still got tired

most AC buyers are return customers so factoring that in gives a more even score.

Most AC buyers don’t give a shit about reviews though, that series is too mainstream for that, so that also doesn’t add up

I really want to get Ghost of Tsushima but I also just started The Witcher 3 pretty recently and from everything I've heard that game will probably keep me busy until the PS5 so I can wait for a price drop lol

Amy loves a game, and Amy plays a game...a lot.

yep, it will - I started it three years ago, completed it, waited a month, and started again. Now I have more than 1000 hours on it and I'm still replaying it whenever I feel like it. still can't believe it came out 5 years ago

Ghost of Tsushima looks good, want to try it so bad but I think I can wait for a sale too

I got to one of the first missions in GOT and you had to find footprints and track them and it reminded me so much of the Witcher. I really recommend it. The open world alone is enough to just have the game sitting there whilst you do other things.
