  8. Honestly, the option is very bad ads or the website gets shut down. I literally cannot afford to run it without them. Unless more people become supporters.

So, it's run it with ads and hope people realize that sucks and pay to remove them and view the website as it's supposed to be seen, shut down the forum, or try putting the entire website behind a paywall and hope that increases the revenue to where it's still viable.

I wish I could remove all the ads on the website, but it accounts for ~50% of the revenue the site generates. Ads + directly paying to use something are the two ways most (all?) websites makes money, and the only way I can afford the labor and cost to keep this site running. If there's a magical third way, someone can let me know.

I can't tell if this is a bit or not, but I feel like not promoting a site because of something the site needs to actually continue existing is not a good look either. I mean, what's the alternative?

You can have ads without them being giant Fox News ads. I think the alternative is just…better ads. The size of ads is whatever, the content makes me uncomfortable promoting

Sure, I myself know they aren’t representative of the site content. I’m not sure others would

  17. You really can't have "better ads." All the ad networks use the same other "main" networks, basically, Google and their subnetworks. If you're seeing Fox News ads, it's most likely based on your personal ad profile that Google has - ads are generated, 99% of the time, dynamically based on your browsing history and profile.

If there's a better network out there than Ad Valley, I'm always open to hear recommendations.

I tried to sell the ads myself when the site started, hoping to just sell to record labels. That made less than 300 bucks for the entire year. They're all advertising on Facebook/Google.

I'm not familiar with ad companies or how ad algorithms operate. I do know that I don't ever visit Fox News. I do like football so maybe that's why (half joking). Most of my Chorus time is spent from a VPN since my work computer is the main computer I'm using, not sure how much that'd factor into anything, and is spent with a browser with a frequently cleared cache due to the nature of my work.

I'm just saying how it's made me feel using the site. I'm definitely not alone in seeing those ads and having a "WTF" reaction on here. But again, I'm not the problem solver here and don't have a good solution for generating money on this site or whatever, it's far from my job. And in the same line of thinking, I'm not going to pretend like I would force you to change anything in terms of who provides your ads. Just expressing a feeling on what I'm seeing.

Some of my ads are in Spanish, some of them are for home ownership or something, they're all just random.

It's just what it is. I was just stating what I've been experiencing. I don't think it's an indication of the quality of the site more of an realization of how expensive it must be to maintain everything.

  21. Honestly, in that case, if you don't wanna give money to me so I have a reason to keep running the site, install an ad blocker (which the good ones also cost some $; I like 1Blocker), and donate to a your favorite band or charity or something. In my opinion, $25 a year is a good deal to support a website. I pay for multiple websites (and podcasts) I use regularly for that same reason, I use them all the time and would like them to keep existing. If I could run the website without ads, or if I could run the website in a way that ads actually made decent money, I would. That world doesn't really exist anymore; I get barely 50 cents per impression, and literally the only other way I know to make money is from those using the service directly.

I'm honestly curious why this would prevent you though from telling other people about the site?

For example, the Fox News ad. You can easily tell someone that the ads are not indicative of the site, and you know this is the case... it just seems like an odd mental roadblock to create.
