not to beat a dead horse but I still can’t believe they can’t find a good team to develop a good Sonic - that franchises recent history makes zero sense

a good Sonic on something like the Switch could conquer the world rn

 

I don't think Xbox could take off in Japan at this point. So many Japanese games get made each year that people will just play something else. Or play those games on PC.

 

I could see them having a “Dreamcast” virtual console for both PS5 and XBsX

Microsoft wanted to buy Sega at some point but decided not to.

I also think Microsoft really doesn’t care about the Japanese gaming market anymore.

Of course anything is possible, it is Sega after all lol

 

Yeah they tried so had with the 360 and failed to grab Japan. When your two rivals are both Japanese it was always going to be a losing battle.

Japan wants handhelds and mobile games. The PS4 has been doing reasonably well but really the console market isn’t close to what it once was there.

Sonic is bad. Sega needs to get back into the console game or just give themselves up to corporate overlords like Nintendo or Sony.

 

Someone pointed out something on Twitter that's a pretty solid argument against a Sega buyout. The idea of a company being absorbed doesn't really fit the idea of being "revolutionary" considering it happens quite often. It would be huge news for sure, but doesn't fit the implications set in the interview. The interview makes it seem like after talking to multiple people at Sega the company is expanding into a new territory or developing new hardware.

Maybe it's VR? I honestly have no idea. But it is Sega's 60th next week.
