  1. I really liked the crafting system in Horizon Zero Dawn, it was easy but still made you feel like you had to prepare for big fights

I like a really shallow crafting system, otherwise I probably won't touch it, def prefer questing for better gear.

crafting doesn’t always suck, not to beat a dead horse but MonHun hits it pretty well. it’s also a game built around those systems entirely, so it is a core part of the gameplay loop as opposed to padding or just an extra skill to spec or some awful minigame etc.

reasons it doesn’t suck in this instance:
    - it’s cool as fuck when you’re adventuring or in a fight and run out of a certain consumable and instead of having to throw the fight you can dart off and harvest some materials to craft some potions and get back in it. like, i always bring honey into fights with me so if i need to i can turn my standard potions into extra mega potions. it adds versatility.
    - merchants shouldn’t be selling crazy powerful potions or gear that are only craftable from rare deposits only found in what is basically a dragon filled inferno. that’s what the contracted hunter is for, dammit. little immersion bits
    - killing a monster fifteen times to turn its skull into some fly fuckin gear so you can go murder it’s bigger best friend is WAY more fun than the JRPG cycle of getting those drops from chests or spending a shit ton of gold on it that you’ll now have to do 100 mindless fodder encounters to replenish

I actually love grinding a fuck ton for gold in JRPGs and getting way overpowered weapons i'm not supposed to be able to afford yet lol.

you enjoy mindlessly one shotting a bunch of random encounters for an hour? i used to but it feels like maybe the most archaic system in all of modern gaming to me these days

I don’t even really like loot. I like questing/grinding/etc. for currency and then buying gear etc.

idk what you mean by this haha

i’m just saying i’d prefer one twenty minute tougher fight than twenty minutes of really easy ones but i get passiveness being appealing sometimes

I mean that I would rather just one-shot guys than having to hit them 3 times by the same character for a few hours. It's a time saver, and it's not really like its ultimately making the game easy. Just get to progress faster. Grinding and getting through random encounters faster is always a plus.

  21. It’s a good question. I don’t think Square has a team for it at the moment. Tabata is out, Nomura is moving from KH3 to FFVIIR, Taro is probably working on a new Nier project, Bravely team teasing Bravely Third.

Someone is definitely working on FF16, if they didn’t have a team, which I doubt because Square is pretty massive, they damn sure made one. There’s just no way they’re not making Final Fantasy.

So tell me something awesome Supporter

But why make Final Fantasy 16 when they can make the Final Fantasy 15-2 Monarchy Expansion?!

Well I misread what you said I thought you said RPGs as a whole because I've had some fatigue lately with just how overwhelming some of the new RPGs can be.

Crafting specifically I mean I generally avoid it if it's not crucial to the game. I mess with it a little but it's never a central part of my play style. Witcher 2 is a good example of a game I actively crafted in while I was playing. I think that one had a good system. I'm sure there are others too, and I usually will dabble in it a little but it's just a hassle. Plus my play style usually ends up being more straightforward things. I feel like crafting aids you more if you're doing more magic/range style of playing, but I usually just end up pulling my sword out lol

And then there is the crafting in games like Far Cry and Assassin's Creed but I wouldn't count that.
