boy oh boy did the 16th colossus fight almost ruin my positive thoughts of this game. it felt good when I finally downed the fucker, but it’s not like I even died once, it just took forever because I kept falling because controls kept giving out and you have to scale the entire colossus and then do the same sequence of attack’s and jumps over and over again

Did you go into the game without knowing the ending?

I have all my physical ps4 games in a giant pile in front of me to stop me from going to buy a new game. I think I’ll get into dragon age inquisition fully instead

    yeah good okay Prestigious

Totally! The game takes place on an overworld map, and you deploy your battalions from your home base. Each battalion can hold a maximum of 5 humanoid units, while larger units like dragons, golems, and beasts take up more space. Each battalion is based on a 3x3 grid, with 9 spaces for you to arrange your units on. This is important because your battalion can get attacked from the side or behind, and your formation plays an important part in this. Obviously, you would want heavier melee-based units like Knights and Berserkers up in the front row, while you keep the more frail units like Clerics and Wizards in the rear or middle rows.

A character will perform an attack based on where it is in the formation. For example, a Paladin will attack 3 times in the front row, 2 times in the middle row, and will perform magic twice in the back row. So you want to organize your units to maximize the amount of attacks, because you will very rarely completely destroy an enemy battalion early on in the game. Early on, just keep your melee units up front where they will attack twice, and put archers and spellcasters in the third row.

Combat begins when your battalion comes into contact with an enemy battalion on the map. You want to make sure your unit is attacking while facing forward, otherwise your formation will be screwed up. That cleric you put in the back row for protection? If you get attacked from the side or behind, the cleric will be exposed. So always attack facing forward. You don't really have to worry much about it early on, as most enemies will meet you head on. If you get a chance to attack them from the side or rear, do so if it is advantageous. Most enemy formations aren't optimized early on, so it won't matter too much until the later chapters.

During combat, you don't actually choose who to attack. If you hit the R button (I think it's R, might be A), a small menu of four options will appear. "Attack Strongest" means that your units will automatically target whichever enemy has the most HP. "Attack Weakest" is the same but vice versa, more of an opportunistic thing. "Autonomous" means your units will attack randomly. "Attack Leader" means that your units will attack the enemy leader at all costs. This is the best option and what you should use 99% of the time, because once an enemy battalion's leader is dead, it will no longer take commands. It will wander the map, avoiding combat, tiring itself out until it needs to camp. Early on, you'll find yourself killing enemy leaders fairly easily, which will leave a bunch of leader-less enemy groups wandering aimlessly around the map. I like to track them down and kill them for the EXP.

Combat ends when every unit has performed its maximum amount of attacks. For example let's say you have a group with one Knight and two Fighters in the front row and two Amazons in the third (back) row. Fighters and Knights perform two attacks each in the front row, while Amazons perform two attacks each in the third row, for a maximum of 10 attacks. Once all of your units and all of the enemy units perform the maximum amount of attacks, a winner will be declared based on the damage dealt. You'll win pretty easily early on because most enemy groups have few characters or are not in optimal formations, which I guess is the game's way of making it easy in the beginning. The loser will be pushed back on the overworld map, while the winner will continue doing whatever command it was performing prior to the start of battle, whether it be standing still on a town or moving forward. If you don't manage to kill any individual units in a battle, each member will receive 1 EXP. You only receive more than that when you actually kill enemy units.

That's the bare bones of it. There's much more, including Alignment, unit fatigue, carrying items, etc. But those are the very basics.

Something magical happened last night. One of my roommates surprised us with RDRII (he bought for my PS4). Unfortunately, We were all so tired that none of us got to play after the insanely long installation last night, but i'm off tomorrow and plan on losing a day to it.

What’s everyone’s take on Anthem (obviously based on what’s out there so far)? I really want it to be good but the news about troubles in Bioware has me worried.

I’m gonna play it, but sadly it’s seemingly just another looter shooter that I’ll toss away relatively quickly.

As someone who really liked Destiny 1 (in the end) and wanted Destiny 2 to do well, I really hope this just learned from all of their mistakes so I can have a fun online game to play again. I like Bioware and I'm not going to hold Andromeda against them because they've done a lot of other things well. As for other Bioware issues? I don't pay enough attention to make a valid opinion.

I just want to be Iron Man underwater.

I liked Andromeda a lot, but as far as I know that wasn’t the same team as the one that leads Anthem development. I assume the team behind the Mass Effect trilogy does? Anyway, I don’t really know what to think. It looks cool enough but then again it’s missing so many things that are good about Bioware games. We’ll see.

If I recall correctly, they gave it to Bioware’s B-team

B-team is such a weird phrase though, that usually really just means the team that was formed after the team that made the game that brought in enough money and acclaim to warrant a second team. It doesn’t necessarily say anything about talent yet it always implies that the second team is less talented.

But anway, the “b-team” made Andromeda, so the main team is working on Anthem? And who’s working on Dragon Age? Just how many teams does Bioware actually have?

I think they got a raw deal on not being prepared and was told to go swim in cold water with the game, which shows in the final product. I honestly hate that it’s most likely the final game of the franchise in the foreseeable future, the original trilogy is one of my personal favorites and I had such hopes for the next chapter

Same. It was unpolished for sure, but I enjoyed the openness a lot more than 3’s linearity. The combat has also never been better in that series.
