I was making a joke on how capitalism likes to ruin things by making companies want to do sequels but I messed up my wording smh

Speaking of endings though, how do y'all judge whether a game's ending is all time great or not? Do you judge it based on the story's ending? Or the last level/mission/quest?

Or if the game has boss fights for example. What if the final boss fight sucks but the story has a satisfying ending? Or vice versa. Do they have to line up for it to be great? Or do y'all overlook one or the other?

I think with TLOU the story ending is so fantastic it doesn’t really matter that the ending gameplay isn’t anything memorable or truly exciting.

the ending of the narrative in that game is incredible on its own but also adding in what you as the player actually do during that ending sequence and it really adds to the whole gut punch-nature of it

idk the TLOU characters relationship is good but is the story that incredible or memorable when you boil it down

Most boss fights suck. They’re the worst video game trope.

I feel like you have to judge a games ending on its terms. for example, two of my favourite endings in memory, Super Mario Odyssey and the Outer Wilds are very different but I love both. Odyssey has little to no story but the bowser bit, mario and peach leaving the moon and the credits song were just pure joy. Outer Wilds on the other hand was a meaningful way to end an incredible story.

Most of the bosses and minibosses in Sekiro made up almost all of my favorite gaming moments from 2019 lol

I live for bosses. Even if they arent fun I just like seeing big scary creatures.

So tell me something awesome Supporter

I love boss fights but I also think that boss fights are often very lazily integrated and could be done more sparingly and use other methods to create difficult ending situations or whatever. Wouldn't be mad with some games shaking it up

Yeah I definitely think the problem is "too many devs do boss fights badly" or "too many devs shoehorn boss fights into games that don't need them/games that don't make sense having them", not "boss fights are a bad part of games".

Prime example is Deus Ex: Human Revolution. Those boss fights were so dumb and bad.

When I was younger, Id always look through video game guides at my local bookstore and just find and read about the bosses for each game. I remember looking at Half Life 2 and thinking 'why do people think this game is good, it doesnt have any fuckin bosses'

I love Dark Souls non-boss combat encounters as well as PVP but I could do without the bosses. They look cool though.

Mostly that's what I meant, yeah. I just happen to think a lot more games that have them don't need them than you probably do.

I def bought Metal Gear Solid when I was 9 because I read a guide in playstation magazine and saw you fight a ninja AND a giant walking mech.

The bosses are the second-biggest reason why I played those games, right behind the lore/exploration/world-building.

Truly there is nobody better than modern From Software at designing a world, populating it with incredible lore and characters, and allowing players to explore as deeply as they want while still coming away with something no matter how far down the plot rabbit hole they go.

I create content for some of your favorite artists

My favorite thing about Metal Gear Solid (Other than Psycho Mantis) is the “the code is on the back of the case” puzzle. And it literally was on the back of the game case. Blew my mind back then
