I just found out earlier that Patricia Hernandez is dating Danielle from IdleThumbs

 

6 episodes. And yes that's true. I don't know much about Patricia besides that but I have been following Gita for a pretty long time, she used to have a podcast with Patrick from Waypoint (formerly from Giant Bomb and Kotaku) when she was still a freelancer

I wanted to get in on this and repeat (hi i'm lightning btw had to make a new acct) something that i said a while back, but something that irks me now - and yes i do emphasize this as a woc - is that all of a sudden people use this to just slam all gamers and youtubers, and not try to improve the communities, as we would with any other industry (movie, music, TV).

there are plenty of progressive and leftist youtubers and twitch streamers, and many of them are from diverse backgrounds, both in gender and ethnicity (Blizzard in particular have done a great job of promoting female streamers on their game client, which has been really helpful for me).

instead of doing the progressive thing of opening up the dialogue of fixing these issues, we now make memes and jokes about all gamers, say things like "anyone who is a youtuber or gamer is bad", and i find this reactionary, much like with the sentiment "burn down the music scene". these are forms of entertainment that, while hurt many and we can work on those issues by supporting people who have been victimized, have also helped and saved many people. and we can work to improve them, and we can start that by talking about, promoting, and supporting inclusive and progressive minded streamers/YouTubers, as well as condemning those who are racist or otherwise bigoted/ignorant.

i understand a lot of this backlash and the overall sentiment is generally coming from people who aren't gamers and don't know much, if anything, about Twitch and/or Gaming YouTube, so they don't have anything to productive to add to the discussion and usually resort to memes and one-liners on Twitter. but for those of us that do know about the online gaming scene, i think it would be wise get in on the discussion.

ps Yes I can't wait for AC origins, and I have a AC Syndicate poster now. No, I haven't touched Persona 5 or FFXII in a while and i'm still at the beginning of both of them. I've mostly focused on HS & HOTS. Fucking blizzard and their addictive games. And my general laziness.

i do want the lost legacy eventually. but i also have barely touched the Nathan Drake collection lol.

You're not wrong, but I genuinely disslike YouTube and Twitch culture, no matter what kind of opinions the person behind the video/stream has. The only YouTubers and Twitch streamers I could potentially enjoy are those who's videos/streams show none of the common trappings. Sadly they won't be successful. Also, when I shit on "gamers", it's not about regular people that play video games. It's the weird fucking subculture that is so incredibly annoying. The right fringe is far worse because they are evil, but "the other side" of "gaming culture" is also annoying in its very own way to me. So yeah, I do know there are plenty of good people, it's just that most of their content is bad to me too lmao. No shots.

 

Yeah I mean I mostly avoid the comments and chats and I think that's on YouTube and Twitch's part to have stricter moderation (the same actually goes for FB and Twitter). And I wasn't personally attacking you re: "shitting on gamers", just that the general conversation around this is "thing is bad", and some viral jokes, but there isn't any legitimate or reasonable discussion about the situation and how to fix it - well, beyond some good polygon articles, I mean.

I mean the people I follow have gameplay for certain games (HS and HOTS) and are also positive and friendly commentators as well. There are some HOTS streamers that Blizzard have promoted who are good too. So that part is a matter of opinion, I guess, because it depends what games/what kind of games you're watching as well, because different people are streaming different games lol.

 

I'm talking more stylistically, regardless of the actual game/content and the person behind it. Not sure how to explain it. Ubiquitous fast cuts that aren't necessary is an example of a YouTube thing I hate. Also, a lot of people in video games media (let alone fandom) - good people and bad people - often have pretty uninformed opinions, which is annoying, but not even the thing I was referring to here.

 

If Japanese devs could understand that a from in game exit to desktop is pretty much PC standard. It feels so odd exiting to title screen, clicking start, then quitting game.
