I said the exact same thing in the E3 thread and the price point and how it was weird how much backlash it got.

I think Jeff(GB) put it best with me paraphrasing him "If Microsoft went aggressive with $399, any future price cuts would be huge money losses. $499 however is good because they can play around with price cuts and still be good."

 

I think it's nice what they are doing. Here is a fairly priced console that runs really well for the casual consumer and then here is an even better console for the hardcore gamer (like myself).

It's nice you are not forced into one or the other.

 

Also, about the Original Xbox games: you have to have the disc to play them. They won't be available to purchase digitally. As far as I know yet.

 

People will pay that much for it which is all that really matters. It would be an issue if they were going to start making games for it that weren't playable on a normal Xbone but they're not.

It's like the elite controller, a super expensive thing that people can buy if they want it. I'll never care about either.

Also, not trying to call Nate out here, I get what you mean but it's funny to me to class the original Xbone as a casual thing and the X as something for hardcore gamers.

It's just a box for people who feel like the slight improvement in graphics is worth twice the price. I can see casual gamers getting the X because they overestimate the difference it'll make and more hardcore gamers sticking with what they have because they'd rather have all three systems and a lot of games than one extra powerful console.

 

Have you played with the Elite. It will change your life.

 

No and I don't want to, haha. I'd rather live in ignorant bliss than pay that much for a controller.

This is not a PS4 Pro, in many cases this machine has the power to deliver more than just slight improvements. That doesn't mean you have to care or notice, but a lot of people do. For me it depends on the genre.

 

None taken. I'm just echoing what the guys at IGN were saying post Microsoft conference and I agree for the most part.

I'm interested to see what the biggest difference is at some point. I'm sure the difference it makes will absolutely be worth it for a lot of people though because I know how much people care about graphics and resolution and all that other stuff I mostly don't care about, ha. I don't mean to suggest that it's just a casual/pointless thing either. It's just a specific product for a specific audience. I also think it's a very nice looking box.

 

I personally like the weight of it. I also like how it's a little bigger than the standard controller and it sits better in your harms. You can change out the D pad and control stick to your style of gaming or for a certain game type. There are also the paddles underneath (which take some getting used to and are totally optional and can be removed).
Lastly you can map your buttons using the app and store two controller settings at the same time and switch between them pretty easily.

 

So it's a combination.

That does sound cool but again I'm not sure I'm the audience for most of that stuff. I'll definitely try one out if I get the chance though. The normal controller already feels a little big to me because I'm so used to playing with my PS4 controller, ha.

 

Yeah, I have a really hard time with the PS4 controller because it's so little.

 

That's the positive though about these things, despite them being expensive, there's clearly people out there that will love them and feel like they're worth the money so having the option is always a good thing imo.

 

The audience for the elite controller is people that play too much Halo

I think I have small hands, haha. I know a lot of my friends have always struggled with PlayStation controllers and I've never had any problem with the size. Only controller I've ever had real issues playing with was the OG Xbox.

That's funny except I don't regally play Halo. I like it for Gears, Forza and every other game for that matter!
