  1. Why do you need jewels? I haven't spent any money either.

There's a ring right at the beginning of the game to get rid of the health bar shortening.

Replying to Dark Souls 2 people, ha. Should have made that more clear.

Been playing it recently, my understanding is that it doesn't remove it but just lessens it slightly. If you're not a pro at the game you will die and will still get a shorter health bar.

Also later on you find more rings that you want to equip and can't have them all because you've gotta keep the anti hollowing one.

I really like the game and the atmosphere etc etc but that killed it for me. I think I'll get on better with 3.

  7. Oh I've never used them for maxing out the gauge, I just focus on killing things in one turn and then the gauge fills up really fast. Make sure you have medals with good specials (attack all enemies, extra damage). Since you're aiming to kill in one turn, the specials that cure ailments and whatnot are kinda useless.

Yeah 3's a lot more lenient. I think the ring definitely makes things manageable though. I'd only recommend playing 2 after already 1, 3 and Bloodborne anyway so by then there shouldn't really be much trouble.

2 is my first one. Thought about buying DS1 but with DS3 so close I didn't. Currently on the fence about picking it up for PC. Really wanna try it out but not confident with myself that I won't play it for a few hours and give up.

I can't recommend getting it and sticking with it enough. It's definitely the most accessible to a newcomer imo and it's a wonderful game.

1 or 3? I have a friend who's been streaming 3 all week and I've been watching odd parts. Absolutely looks a lot more slick, polished and dare I say easier to get to grips with than DS2. Guess I could always do a Steam refund if I don't get on with it.

    3. 1 is an incredible game but if you're worried about giving it up if it gets too difficult or obtuse I say go with three. It eases you into things a lot more. Plus it's a current game that loads of people are playing and it's a current gen game so it looks way better, ha.

Yeah, I can't lie, the graphics and old looking interface of DS1 pushed me further away from buying it.

How is DS3 for casters? Found DS2 insanely easier as a caster than a melee but the loot was primarily melee based so I found myself getting a little disheartened at not finding new robes or staves.

I've heard 3 is more difficult for magic users since the enemies are a bit faster/more aggressive but I've found a good amount of magic based items and weapons. I'm always about melee though so I can't really say how it is.

    PS1 essentials:

    Crash Bandicoot trilogy
    Metal Gear Solid
    Chrono Cross
    Fear Effect 1 and 2
    Xenogears
    Castlevania Symphony of the Night
    Tony Hawk 1-4
    Twisted Metal 1-4

Every game on this list aside from Xenogears and Castlevania can be had for about $15 or under.

Thanks! I intentionally left off all the FF games for PS1 because they're always on best of lists.

I'm looking forward to the remake though. The best way to play FF7 is on PSN since you don't have to worry about disc swapping mid game.
