I've only seen PC and Mac so far. But how do you play an RTS with a controller? Not trying to be smug, I genuinely don't know.
EDIT: Woah so it looks like Red Alert 3 released on PS3. Pretty cool.

 

I mean there where even RTS games on GBA so they could figure it out

 

Nintendo DS had Final Fantasy: Revenant Wings. The controls were fine (since it had the stylus), but the screen was so little I always ended up selecting the wrong units.

X-Com(turn based I know), that LOtR RTS that came out in 06(?), and Halo Wars all handle p good on controller imo.

X Com is on consoles.

ESO and FF XIV are MMOs and they're on console, and Paragon and SMITE are MOBAs and they're on console too. So games people usually think of being on PC do pretty well on console. It's also helpful for me considering it's easier for me to handle a controller. So I appreciate the option.

 

I think I've read that Neverwinter's numbers on Xbox One are really good so there seems to be a case for those games coming to consoles

 

XCOM is a turn based game (not an RTS), so it would make sense for it to be playable on a controller. (EDIT: I'm referring to the newer XCOMs btw!)

MOBAs and MMOs would be fine as long as you're only controlling one character (or maybe 2 or 3). I think RTS is way harder to translate due to the amount of units you have to control at any given time, and in real time even. That's mostly why I was surprised haha. Imagine imitating a mouse to select a bunch of units, using the right analog stick. And then ordering them to attack a base, and then selecting 1-2 units to retreat.

I guess once you get past the learning curve it becomes easier though. If it was impossible to do an RTS on console, then nobody would be doing it.

 

Isn't Halo Wars series RTS?

I've heard a lot of praise for it.

 

The reason a lot of people think RTS won't work on console is because games like Starcraft and (not as much but a bit) Age of Empires lean more on the real time versus the strategy part of RTS, and therefor are completely optimized for keyboard/mouse. It's not that RTS doesn't work on console, it's that competitive RTS won't really work on console. It's the same reason why Counter Strike will almost always have a bigger competitive scene than Call of Duty.

 

I used to play the shit out of Counter Strike on Xbox, and CS: GO on 360.

 

Well there is a lot more there, including accessibility (it's cheap and runs on old PCs and so on which helps in, for example, Asian markets), continued support instead of annual replacements, legacy and more.

Speaking of games being more than fun... i really need to play nier automata sometime this year.

The reactions I'm seeing to where that game goes are awesome.

 

It's in the running for my favorite game of the year even though two of my favorite franchises (Zelda and Persona) put out incredible entries as well. It's fantastic and truly insane.

 

Just put another hour or so into Nier and i love it so much. Such good vibes.

 

I keep trying to finish up NieR so I can properly start P5, but every time I pick it up with intentions of knocking out B route, I just keep doing more sidequests. I have friends that have finished most routes/100%ed it and keep telling me how much better it continues to get and how badly I need to finish it, but it's so easy to get distracted.

 

I have so many games i want to finish and not enough time.

 

Buying Nier so soon after it came out was silly of me. I have just too much other stuff to play and with P5 dominating my time, all I did was the opening level. I'll go back once I finish P5.

 

Help I forgot the name of a game that comes to Xbox and PS4 this summer. It's a very anime JRPG (maybe Action JRPG?).

 

Oh by the way, I just got an achievement for being on this forum for one year and I just wanted to thank you all for being so cool. Video games mean a lot to me and I don't really have anybody to talk to about them, so I really enjoy talking to you people in this thread.

I'll post this in the Nintendo thread too.
