I listened to the EZA podcast for like 10 minutes and this one white guy called this other white guy Blood several times and I turned it off. I know his name is Bloodworth, but it's still corny. That's my whole experience with them so I barely have an opinion.

tbh as much as i love EZA, there biggest problem is that its just a bunch of white dudes. I appreciate Ian for the diversity he brings, but they desperately need some woman/PoC in the mix.

I don't listen to EZA so I can't speak to that, but what does a bunch of white dudes have to do with anything? Bombcast and Beast Cast is all white dudes - not sure what diversity has to do with a good gaming podcast.

And for the longest time I only listened to GB, had no idea what any of them looked like, so they could have all been POC and I wouldn't have known the difference. Wasn't until I paid for the premium subscription to the website I started watching videos.

You're misunderstanding me. It's not about them being white and talking about games, it's about them being a bunch of white guys that use the term "blood" casually to adress another white guy. Like I said, and others pointed out, there is a perfectly acceptable reasons for that, but it still sounds weird to me, haha. I was just sharing an annecdote.

That being said, more diversity in video game journalism would not hurt either, but that is absolutely not what I meant here, nor does it keep me from listening to and enjoying podcasts full of white guys.

They have mentioned this themselves but they also don't even get enough to all be full time so they can't bring anyone else in, ha. They used to have Elise when they were back at Gametrailers and Brandon's wife is sometimes on their stuff.

I do hope GB goes for some diversity in their hires, Austin was so great before he left for Waypoint.

    Like take my money Sony!
Highly recommend Cane and Rinse. They pick out a single game per podcast and have a very thorough and engaging conversation. It is excellent.

Also: Game Scoop is quite good.

All the EZA guys seem like good dudes but have no interest him hearing them talk.

Video Games Hotdog are four guys, all developers (one of them made Frog Fractions, for example), so they have a very different perspective from critics. They're very sharp. Waypoint Radio is the flagship podcast of Waypoint (VICE's gaming vertical), featuring Austin Walker (formerly of Giant Bomb), Patrick Klepek (also formerly of Giant Bomb, and more), Danielle Riendeau (fomey of Polygon and Idle Thumbs), Rob Zacny (also Idle Thumbs) and others. Austin is very academic and maybe the best critic in the industry in a certain sense of the word. It's very fun and upbeat.

oh yeah defiantly, i also understand compeltely that the cast they have right now is very much circumstantial considering its just whoever was working at game trailers at the time of their shutdown. im just hoping this second year they bring some more people into the mix, even if only as guests on their normal podcasts (which they do even know from time to time)

Different perspectives and experiences. It can help to make the gaming community and development industry more inclusive, and more welcome of social diversity, and less tolerant of racism, sexism, and other forms of discrimination. I'm in a unique position being a MENA minority + WOC. It is hard. Seeing people like you who are well-known/famous, or otherwise represented in entertainment, will make you feel more welcome and comfortable. You don't constantly feel erased and dismissed. There is also the story of how characters in games/books/TV etc are represented, but that's another conversation haha. And so, obviously, 'pandering' is not something I prefer, especially when it's portraying stereotypes or the character(s) are otherwise written poorly. But that's why we gotta get more a more diverse group of writers/producers/directors, as well.

Of course, industries will always be represented by the majority race/religion, simply due to population/demographics, and that's expected. There is no denying that. But to help increase tolerance of minorities, and to reduce harmful narratives and fear mongering of them, we need to include them in the conversation first and listen to them.

Of course, I'm not of the mind of Liberal Identity Politics/SJW-isms insofar as to just "well let's have it be 50/50 women/men" or "look we just need 1 <insert minority group here> person on the panel" esp if they're also pushing harmful narratives, are ignorant, don't understand or are not well educated on the subject or aren't even interested. I'm aware those voices have seem to become 'mainstream'/the loudest and I'm not particularly fond of that because I don't agree with their methods a lot of the time, esp when it becomes hypocritical and thus harmful to anyone associated with 'the Left'.

Some of the ones that seem to be well known on YouTube too, have really weak arguments and even I shake my head at them. That doesn't mean, however, that a lot of the anti-SJW response is fair either, cause most of it comes from Centrists/Right wingers who in their own ways are misunderstanding and ignorant, as they generalize and think this represents "all of the Left" instead of trying to find any nuance or context in regards to any of this. And they otherwise themselves mention a lot of racist talking points or are dismissive of harmful ideas or events. And if you've been following Leftist twitter you know a lot of what consists of the "liberal identity politics" narrative is rejected, just not always for the reasons the "anti-SJW" crowd mention, and usually not for the same conclusion/resolution.
