I mean Watch_Dogs 2 would be considered more innovative than Watch_Dogs 1 given the improvements they've shown. But I like the hacking. You can go in all stealth. That's not possible in GTA.

So I've heard. Total Biscuit called it one of his favorite games in years. Maybe I'll try it.

I am enjoying The Division a lot though, regardless of what people are saying.

Many would indeed call Sleeping Dogs a GTA clone.

The same criticism applies for CoD, you aren't exactly contradicting anything here. Franchise fatigue is a real thing, it's a bit disappointing how intractable AAA devs are when it comes to pushing for new IPs

  4. Save for the hacking it is literally the same game with a little hacking thrown in. I think Watch_Dogs 2 is even more blatant. The problem is these games have no soul. Just look at that trainwreck of a main character in WD1.

Sleeping Dogs (and Saints Row) at least try to put their own spin on things. Watch Dogs just wants to ride the coattails.

I can't play Assassin's Creed games any more, they give me arthritis. Again, you are moving goalposts. It might be good but it's still just the same old, except it seems they took the combat from Batman?

You just described what I meant as a palette Swap. They didn't even bother to swap the palette for 4 haha. I meant the gameplay loop is largely the same.

Well, Sleeping Dogs is more GTA clone than Watch_Dogs, but the stories and atmosphere and environment are still different. I prefer SD and WD honestly. GTA is fun, but there's a lot of other stuff that I just personally disagree with and don't click with.

  6. It's really hard to have a discussion if you refuse to argue your points.

it's not a good thing or acceptable just because someone else does it.

Call of Duty is arguably worse than Assassin's Creed and if you haven't played Syndicate you shouldn't comment on it really. I'm not moving goalposts, that's just a strawman.

GTA-like really isn't derogatory to me, it's a genre of game at this point. Probably needs it's own actual genre name.

  9. I meant that we aren't arguing the quality of the games. AC: Syndicate might be a totally competent game in it's own right (and so are most CODs!), but that still doesn't mean it exemplifies creative freedom.

Watch_Dogs 2 already seems to have a better protag and considering it's not taking itself seriously, it looks like it realized what was wrong with the first one. I can't say for sure, because you know, I HAVEN'T PLAYED IT, but from the trailers and gameplay it already looks better. They've explicitly said what they've added in, what they've improved from the first one, and the characters don't look like your average bored moody person.

If you mean because it's Assassin's Creed, then sure, but otherwise I disagree. It does a TON to revitalize the series. And I've played The Ezio Trilogy, Black Flag, Rogue and Unity so I'm not just saying this for the sake of it.

  12. quite frankly it just looks like a bunch of montreal 30 somethings trying way too hard to be bay area millenials and failing horribly at creating a game starring black skrillex.

Did someone take half your bank account this week or something? You seem super angry.

Also - black Skrillex? If you're talking about the guy in the face mask with a robot, he's white. Shows how much attention you're paying.

  14. You know what, you convinced me. I'll pick it up during the XBO sale. I loved the Ezio trilogy. You seem quite convinced it's a return to form. I hope it's easier on holding down the right trigger than Unity was.

    @mescalineeyes is ruthless.

And I thought I had an axe to grind against Ubi for not enjoying much since FC3.

  16. haha someone actually kind-of did, but it's all good, sorry if I sound worked up. I am just passionate about disliking Ubisoft.

It's kind of gross to be passionate about disliking something. That's not healthy or worth it.

i may get better but we won't ever get well Prestigious

I'd hesitate to call any of the games mentioned a GTA clone. They take cues from it, sure, as a monolithic, massive franchise in the industry. But the introduction of secondary mechanics such as hacking or Arkham style combat, differences in driving and world traversal ideas, different tones and stories... Those are all distinguishing features. It's like calling a simple platformer a Mario clone - it just makes more sense instead to acknowledge that the game has become widely influential for use as a reference in its genre.

  19. I guess I just want them to do better? Two of my first games ever were Ubisoft games, notably the first Rayman and POD. Does anyone remember POD? haha

You can't say you want them to do better and purposefully avoid trying some of their games. Bias doesn't help

Also Rayman Legends is fantastic - that's on you for ignoring it

And what about their 'indie' games, hello? Grow Home, Child of Light and Valiant Hearts all received glowing praise. I bet you guys all think none of those are creative or interesting though right?

Depends, I think there is a fair ground for adulation/contempt for what have you in the industry. As long as the negativity doesn't result in personal, fan-boyish attacks at one another.

When I'm being negative it's not like I'm seething about it, just stating my thoughts on this or that.

the main character in watch dogs 2 is black tho...

also i dislike ubisoft for how they fucked over patrice desilets tbh i don't hate their games but the way they treated him was scummy as hell

Yeah that was more or less the point I was trying to make earlier, GTA-like is a genre at this point in all but having an actual name.

I mean I just mentioned a bunch of examples of a bunch of different games, both past and upcoming, but whatever. This thread is getting too aggressive right now.
