  6. Thanks to Child of Light, I've made zero progress in FFXIII in the last few days. I might dedicate a bit more time into that, or I might start Child of Light New Game Plus...

I've also been wondering what Limbo would look like on my big TV downstairs at night.

Gameplay is boring I really liked the story.

    It's a short game---just enjoy the ride. :).

i think its narrative is by far the weakest component of the game, and that as a game is way more interesting to talk about what it does by being a game, versus its gaminess as a sum of its parts.

basically i think it's praised, which it deserves, for at least some of the wrong reasons.

I believe most of the praise is tied to how the narrative is delivered rather than the narrative itself

idk Wikipedia states "Praise was particularly directed at the game's narrative, Seifert's performance, and gameplay mechanics." and i agree with the latter but not the former.

not to be like "people who like this narrative have shit taste or are wrong for liking this," but i do think people conflate the two because i'll look at books and movies i like and Her Story's narrative just... is pretty weak in comparison imo.

I forgot Her Story even existed. I meant to play it and never got around to it and it completely dropped off my radar. Maybe I'll give it a go soon.

Her Story was a game I enjoyed fooling around with for the 90 minutes it took and then have almost never thought about since then.

I never beat it but loved what I played. The only reason I didn't beat it is because I hate playing games on my Ipad for some reason.

The scripting and delivery itself is a large part of the why the gameplay actually works though so I'd include that in the narrative section even if the story itself isn't spectacular.

Here's Alex Navarro's review over at GB.

I kept forgetting to put my PS4 on rest so I've been downloading Doom for like 2 days. Hopefully get to play tonight.

Just played Her Story there and I thought her performance was great. Really believable and rather understated. The story itself, I found interesting but it's not exactly breaking any barriers.

from very early on I had assumed DID, haven't changed my mind on that

to be clear yeah eveyrbody should play Her Story, it's a good and interesting game and deserves the praise it got, i just think there are games with better writing

idk i'd even argue that the script (not sure what you mean by delivery - acting?) was a weakness in that the dev didn't really try to justify where the interviewer's questions went, why these files were saved in this manner, why we don't have basic information stored in the database - or at least i don't think so, perhaps in one of the text files on the desktop he did, i forget - and so he just kind of eliminates those concerns entirely. those are components of my brain that i had to tell to turn off to just let the story exist in its own world - which is fine - but indicative, i think, of a weak narrative.

They're explained in the text files, weakly tho. Y2k bug protection or something and a flood in 97
I thought the strength of the narrative for was in the open endedness. I mean if you showed me the 200 odd videos in sequence I would have gotten bored, but being dropped into that db to search around made the narrative stronger. I believe the lack of guidance is what makes the game.

Yeah I was referring to the acting which while awkward at times because of not having the interrogation questions included, is a good performance. Especially in regards to playing the two different characters with their specific ticks consistently and inconsistently when called for it, by far one of the most interesting parts of the game for me.

yeah, perhaps i'm being too restrictive in how i define "narrative." either way, I still stand by the opinion that the story is pretty weak, but that explains that a little better.

yeah, i think she did well with what she had. I think at times she overacted but primarily because of the script rather than her own ability i would guess, given how it all hung on her.
