light Transistor and Braid spoilers ahead.

so I enjoyed Transistor's gameplay, storytelling, and art direction. I don't even mind the very linear route and relatively repetitive arena-upgrade-story drip; locking the story behind different uses of the mechanics was really clever design. what really soured for me, though, was really the totally uncompelling relationship with the protagonist and her partner. this was exasperated by the, frankly, annoying narrator - constantly talking in breathy fragments and only infrequently saying anything helpful, or even particularly relevant. you can't make a character-centered story and only string us along on one side of the conversation! it's especially obnoxious given he's male and she's female, although i don't know that genderswapping either would have really helped - it's just not a viable place to start for endearing your characters and their relationship to your audience, imo. in fact, i wasn't even particularly certain that Red cared for the man, I was half expecting something like Braid towards the end because she just needs the transistor! this became clearly not the direction once she spoke to him through the terminal, which was clever and they should have done more with that.
all of the actual relationship we see happens in the literal credits scene! this after she fucking kills herself to be with him! that's fucking stupid!

Never played any other Persona, but 5 was easily my most loved game last year. I reaaaaly want a remaster of 3 or 4 to hit the PS4 soon.

 

I would love for 3 and 4 to be on PS4 yea

 

I'm honestly surprised they haven't remastered them but Catherine (also a great game) which has a much smaller audience is getting one. Maybe it's because they already did remakes for them technically. They came out and then they did P3 FES and P3P for the PSP and then Persona 4 Golden. It just seems like a giant missed opportunity to get more people into the series.

 

I almost bought a pstv just because I wanted to play persona 4

 

I actually DID do that. Totally worth it. It's now my retro device, a bunch of PS1 games and such while my Vita has all my solid handheld titles.

 

I really really wish that P3 and P4G got PS4 ports because they’re ridiculously hard to play otherwise.

 

Got to the 3rd floor of enter the gungeon late last night and was PUMPED. Game is so so so so fun.

 

Still plugging away at Hollow Knight. This is becoming one of my favorite games ever. I looooooove these characters.

 

Not entirely sure what you do in this game but it look beautiful. 8/28 release date.

 

i lost momentum literally right before the final boss bc i wanted to 100% it and it's like impossible to do so

 

Already pre-ordered and got the nifty theme. I just want this and Wattam. Two indie releases I'm really looking forward to.

 

i havent touched my vita in a while but i bought one for the same exact reason and also used it to play ps1 games as well as a couple of indies. i really love it when i was using it more often, totally underrated console.

 

it's dead now but I'm collecting all the splinter cell games for free hell yeah

 

playing Mafia III, and, uh, i see we're....... still doing the playboy magazine collectibles, huh

otherwise so far this game is pretty sleek in its UI, music is stylish, presentation is solid beyond some iffy animations and graphics, but i just really don't know that the GTA-lite open world is viable anymore. shit, i dont think GTA V really had viable gameplay, either. it's just really tired and generic, and opening it up way more like GTA did gets you the 500000 different game modes where there was no coherence in your gameplay. open world third-person shooters may just not be sustainable imo?? then again im drunk

 

Was able to grab this too. Ran to Xbox and quickly started the install. Excited because Conviction will be one of the next games I play, then this so it works out.

 

I’ve heard many industry people say that if you actually want to sell a lot of copies, you’re going to have to have an open world, with very few exceptions

 

It's so good. I got sidetracked by Horizon: Zero Dawn, but I need to throw that back on again.

 

what do you mean impossible? I was kind of hoping to to do just that.

 

oh yeah, that's what it seems. it just sucks because i think it's game design painting itself into a corner, particularly with regards to making compelling, cohesive stories

 

oh sorry, it's totally possible it's just hard as fuck aha. i think i got stuck on the final colosseum round.
