I've never really viewed video games as something to help my anxiety or stress but man, it's probably better than anything else I've ever tried when I look back on it.

It usually helps me calm down and escape, but I did have one terrible time playing Persona 5 when I was horrifically depressed and it just made it worse. That was just stupid on my part.

    to that point...

Chill out: a new wave of relaxing video games shows there's more to them than violence

i think it's good (and fascinating) that we're even reevaluating how video games and violence intersect - i'm so glad we're past, at least mostly past, the stupid 90s reductive debates of "does Doom makes kids shoot up schools" and able to approach the medium with more nuance and appreciation for how art and society play together.

That sounds like Madden for my friend. He shattered part of his controller because he spiked it down.

I’ve never broken anything over it but a fist fight did almost break out when playing with a friend once.

Be honest, if the fist fight happened, who would have won?

Jesus. I used to play games with a guy who had/has a major anger problem and I would legitimately get scared when I started winning anything because I know he's like smashed mirrors and shit.

So after about 4 hours of playing Hallow Knight I'm finally into it. It's frustrating, but in a different way compared to Cuphead. I'm clueless sometimes about what to do next...and then I die all of a sudden and lose all my geo. That has happened less, but still, so frustrating especially in the beginning when 150 geo seems like a lot.

my older bro almost choked out my best friend playing the original Smash Bros. My bro sucked at the game and we were kicking his ass and taunting him then he lost it

I'm usually a very calm/laid back person but when I play a frustrating game I swear so loud at my TV that my family thinks something is horribly wrong lol

I used to get so mad playing Halo 2. Kicked my TV in, destroyed many controllers, even threw my Xbox at a wall once. I don't play much multiplayer these days.

The only time video games have really gotten violent for me is this one game of NCAA Football a few years ago. I can’t remember the details exactly, but I think there were like 5-10 seconds left in the 4th and my friend and I were either tied or he was up 3, and for some reason he threw a Hail Mary to the end zone. (He’s the type to throw on 4th and long and never punts or kicks field goals, so he didn’t really win a lot..)

I intercepted it and by some miracle ended up running it all the way back and winning as time expired.

I looked over at him just in time to dodge the Dual Shock 3 hurling directly at my face.

I broke my PSP back in the day by slamming it on my knee while playing ATV Off Road Fury I think it was called? I mean technically it still worked but it got real wonky with things so I got it repaired.

That's about the most I've done I think. I still do get mad at some things though I just have the control to not actually break anything lol

Oh I’ve had many angry sessions of video games, but overall it’s my most therapeutic activity I take part in.

Having said that yeah I’ve probably broken 2-3 controllers in my career.

I had some issues with throwing controllers when I was like 12 - 13. Over the years I have definitely mellowed out. Like, I can't even force myself to get angry at video games at this point. The lone exception being this one time recently where I was playing on my friend's DDR machine and failed a really hard song within the last 10 steps. But even then that just consisted of me sitting down and screaming "FFFFFFFFFUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUCCCCCCCCCCKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKK" rather than doing anything destructive.

I have not played a video game in about a month and i'm having withdrawals. However, when I do sit and play a game I find myself getting distracted. I have NO idea what to even play these days. I'm waiting on Spider-Man but i'm not even sure I have an interest right now which totally sucks.

I killed a guy once. But in fairness that was more premeditated than it was in passion so I don’t know if that counts.

  24. Every time I go to play something lately, I just keep getting upset that I'm not playing Spider-Man :crylaugh: I actually started to play old Spider-Man games from the PlayStation 1 to try to hold me over.
