Have never actually played a DQ game, where do you suggest I start?

 

If you havent played Pokemon DAS A GOOD ONE TOO. Especially Soul Silver/Heart Gold

 

They're stand alone games, doesn't matter where you start. IX is my personal favourite.

 

Think the last one I played was Gold, such good games!

Oh and it's not RPG but if you have any interest in visual novels 999 is fucking incredible and one of my favorite games in general

 

Perfect! The ones I mentioned are remakes of Gold and Silver!

 

They do visual novels? That's interesting! I might give SoulSilver a shot then since Gold was the last one. Maybe eventually I will get a 3DS for X and Y.

 

Oh no the Pokemon ones aren't visual novels, just 999. Soul Silver and Heart Gold are the remakes.

 

That's what I meant, sorry. I just didn't know that visual novels were even a thing!

 

Oh haha alright, yea it's really nifty with puzzles and such.

 

I may be in the minority, but I really loved Pokemon Conquest which is like a feudal era Japan take on Pokemon.

I also can vouch for 999 as it's also one of my favorites of all time, but as for RPGs, these are the ones I'd go for:

Radiant Historia (there's a new 3DS remaster, but the original is still awesome)
Rune Factory 3 (it's like Harvest Moon but with a bunch of fantasy RPG elements. May or may not be your thing.)
Castlevania: Dawn Of Sorrow (Now, I don't know if it's what you'll be into because it's an action platformer with RPG elements, but it's really good.)
Shin Megami Tensei: Devil Survivor (I've posted a video for this one as it has a lot haha, but a gem.)

It looks like PlayStation Now is getting a download feature - VG247

Totally makes PS Now much more interesting to me. I'll finally get to catch up on some old games if this happens.

 

Well, PS3 games on it won’t be downloadable haha.

 

Why not? I don't get the joke? If I'm on PS Now on PC why would I be able to download PS2 and PS4 but not PS3?

 

They’d have to pull off some kind of magic to get PS4 able to emulate ps3 games haha.

 

Oh. Well as long as I can play them on PC that's a step in the right direction. Besides, they found a way to emulate PSP games on PS4, I'm sure they could emulate PS3 games on PS4 they just don't want to spend the time or money which is stupid because it would work out for them in the long run.

 

DQ9 and 5 are both great places to start.

The DS has an endless amount of amazing RPGs. Look up lists and you'll find a lot of good stuff.

Definitely looks offensive at first glance, so I can understand where the outrage is coming from. I'm still not entirely sure that isn't appropriation, though. Nor do I think we should be offended by his dedication to the craft. (Playstation choosing him over anyone else is still somewhat questionable, though. Like, just a little bit) Due to globalization, appropriation is inevitable. Not all appropriation is offensive, and I think this is one of those instances. Like, a white guy becoming a karate sensei, which obviously requires a lot of time and dedication. It's about as harmless as white people dressing up as anime characters at conventions. Probably still appropriation, but nothing to be offended about. (But omg please don't use Maui's tattooed skin as a costume.) By all means people should call attention to things that stink, but if some Japanese person educates us that it is in fact not shitty, we should back off a bit. (I know I've said before re: ScarJo in Ghost in the Shell that Japanese people in Japan don't have the same concept of appropriation as Asians living in America, but for this case it's... tricky.)

 

I think i'll start with 9 and move to 5 since those are the most easily accessible to me. It seems that there are a LOT of great RPGs for the DS and it's overwhelming. I'll start with those since I think I've exhausted the likes of FF and even Golden Sun elsewhere.
