Outraged Battlefield Fans Demand Historically Accurate 64 vs 64 Matches

 

The childish outrage in the Battlefield community has been amusing to watch

 

pretty disappointing month tbh when you realize how much got taken out.

 

I think most who are upset are so because it looks cartoony and silly rather than gritty like previous entries. I mean, it's absurd to be upset that you can play as a woman but 99 % of the backlash is not due to that.

the subreddit and youtube comments makes it pretty apparent that at least a large portion of anger is about the fact that there's a woman in a WW2 game. some are saying it's cause she's got a prosthetic, which i don't see why it's worse than blimp-sprinting or the inherent inaccuracies inevitably present in video games as simulators. but i think to say that only 1% of the backlash is related to a female protagonist just isn't founded. it doesn't align with what we know the gaming community feels about "SJWs" and non white-cishet-males, or the internet about the ghostbusters remake, or really anything in a post-gamergate culture.

 

Half of the shit I did in BF4 was unrealistic. If people are looking for a historically accurate military sim, they're playing the wrong game.

 

This is just wrong. You can play as a woman in BF1. No one cares. The gaming community still buys and supports games with women characters all the damn time. Sarah Conner and Ripley are huge nerd icons and also women but yes lets continue to misread why the shitty GB remake was reviled.

On the BF1 sub right now there is a post from a woman player who has misgivings and the top comment embodies the sentiment that this has to do with the atmosphere the trailer implies not the female character that is the issue. The number of posts specifically taking issue with the woman character is far smaller than other misgivings. I have thousands of hours in the series and browse the forums and subs frequently, pretty sure I have a good sense of the backlash's primary cause. 1% is a silly underestimate, sure, I'll admit that. But to imply MOST are mad a woman is in a WW2 game is blatantly misleading to support a socio-political viewpoint.

Medal of Honor Underground was like 16 years ago now and you played the entire game as a woman in a WW2 setting. No one gave a fuck.

It's about balance. BF was a middle ground between an arcade and tactical shooter. Could you do absurd things? Yes. Were there anachronisms for fun gameplay? Yes. But no one wants it to go full on camp.

 

I'm glad I don't give a shit about these online shooters lol

 

I enjoyed it. I dont want some military sim. We have to deal with campers enough in online shooters.

 

lol ghostbusters was certified fresh and naming two female characters isn't really a great argument but this is off the rails and not gonna go anywhere better. i think, if nothing else, it's endemic to how the internet gets whipped up; that divorcing this from gender is a foolish bit of tunnel vision; and that we've seen this all before with gamergate.

I made the mistake of reading the youtube comments on the BF trailer and I can attest to a lot of people being angry about females in the game. Also some of them were under the impression she was transgender and they were doubly mad about that. No idea how they came to that conclusion but yeah it's my own fault for reading the comments section.

Regardless, the trailer was kinda meh, I really just wanted to see some raw gameplay but that's coming soon enough I guess.

I truly am sick of this Gamergate/incel garbage in gaming. Like grow the fuck up, you’re all being sexist and misogynistic losers about video games and it’s time to stop. Women can be in games, women can play games without your input and if it truly ruins your life knowing that, then maybe YOU are the problem and YOU need to get shit together.

 

I only use voice chat with friends.

Aren't all of their games? I thought Heavy Rain was pretty garbage, but my cousin loved it. Didn't hear much good about Beyond Two Souls either.
