I have no problem with exclusive games in general, although I do get kind of annoyed by third-party exclusive content deals. Like, I play Destiny on PS4 so it was never a problem for me but it sucks that Xbox, and now also PC, players get screwed out of content for indeterminate amounts of time. I get that it's just business and the platform holders have to get every advantage they can, but it still sucks.

yeah that shit is dumb. That's the spiteful side of exclusives, just trying to keep exclusive content from other platforms for a while rather than trying to create the best game possible to add value to your console.

Really the more accurate statement is that the Souls games in general wouldn't exist in a world without exclusives. Sony's assistance in developing/publishing Demon's Souls as a PS3 exclusive made that game possible.

Same thing with delayed multiplayer DLC in CoD or the one-month delay for The Division's expansions. Just bad for gamers all around.

Do people even care about that stuff? Are COD players picking their console of choice based on early DLC? It's lame as.

Right, exactly. It's so stupid. I guess Activision has no reason to turn down free money from (presently) Sony though, so I get why they do it.

  9. Yeah I’d rather see Sony take the money they’re paying for exclusive COD and Destiny DLC and put it toward taking chances on weird games like Demons’ Souls and Journey but they must be seeing some significant ROI to continue doing it year after year.

haha what? no. those games would still most likely get made, you just wouldn't be limited to a certain console to play them. exclusives and early access dlc are bad

That's not true, Bloodborne was the direct result of Sony Interactive Entertainment contracting an exclusive from From to be made in conjunction with Sony Japan Studio, which is owned by Sony. From pulled staff off of Dark Souls II to make it (which, as Anthony pointed out above, was only made because Sony had previous invested in Demons' Souls). Even if the idea for Bloodborne did get developed without Sony, we only got the version of it we got because Sony fronted the bill for it and provided resources in the form of SJS.

  12. Same thing goes for Bayonetta 2 and Nintendo. That game was on the verge of cancellation and wouldn't have been released had Nintendo not paid for it to be finished and released. The game did not sell well regardless, and the fact that we're getting Bayonetta 3 is solely due to the fact that Nintendo is looking at it like an investment that they don't mind losing money on.

Bloodborne would have for sure because of how popular From's games were by that point but, like I said, Demon's Souls wouldn't. That game required significant investment from Sony for a third-party title, they had to take a chance on From's vision. They wouldn't have provided such a niche product with that kind of backing without exclusivity coming along with it. And Bloodborne doesn't get made without Demon's Souls and Dark Souls being successful first.

It's going to be set on a deserted island littered with chests that you get to by flying in and jumping out of a plane to parachute down.

Just let everyone play every game without having to choose a console.

Besides 90% they aren't truly exclusive anyway because of steam so it's really irrelevant

Nintendo and Sony don't put their exclusives on Steam and those are the best ones.

Anyway I have no strong opinions about exclusives vs non-exclusives. I do think it's easier to make a better game when it's an exclusive and also agree that there's times where games should be non-exclusive. I'm all for whatever.

the whole point of console exclusives is to buy the console. It's for profit for the console. You have no idea if these games "wouldn't exist" if the console didn't. It's the game studios who make the game. It's about money, it's not about the players. This is kind of like "if capitalism didn't exist you wouldn't have X"; it's the 'innovation' argument all over again, just in a different cloth. I wouldn't have the PS4 if it wasn't for the exclusives, but to think that's a GOOD thing is absurd. The more platforms a game is on, the wider the audience you have. For example, I started my journey through the FF franchise with the FF XIII trilogy on Xbox 360, and now I'm playing FF7 on Steam - this is good, not bad.

  23. Obviously that's good, FF7 is one of the best games of all time and I'm glad people don't need to dig up a PS1 to play it. I'm not saying it's bad when games are multiplatform, I'm saying it's good when the hardware manufacturers invest in weird, niche ideas that wouldn't have otherwise been lucrative to make, like Bloodborne and Bayonetta. It's pretty well documented how those games came into existence due to their exclusivity deals. I also think it's good that Sony has invested so much money into studios like Naughty Dog and Sony Santa Monica, who wouldn't have had the confidence to make deep, expensive games with high production values like The Last Of Us and God of War. Sure it sucks that you need to buy every console if you want to play every game, but in a field with a massive amount of overhead that doesn't like to take huge risks, I'm glad Sony and Nintendo are investing in high quality exclusives.

Exclusives are fine if that's your brand. Sony has essentially made the Playstation brand all about their exclusives, which is perfectly acceptable. Same with Nintendo. The problem is when people make the assumption that every single console brand was built on exclusive games, when that's not necessarily the case. The Xbox brand for example was never built on exclusives, contrary to popular belief.

the lack of xbox one exclusives blows my mind when sony is killing it this console cycle with exclusives.if Microsoft doesn't come out swinging at e3 this year with some new game or gears 5 or halo 6 they are screwed. everyone knows a new forza horizon is on the way but outside of them making a new forza game every year they dont put out the exclusive games to keep up with sony. i mean between this year and next sony gets god of war, spiderman, days gone, last of us part 2, and Detroit becoming human plus whatever they show off at e3. now i know the xbox isnt built on exclusives but when sony puts of 2-5 every year they need to do something to sell more systems. now i have a xbox one x a ps4 pro and a high end gaming computer so this isnt going from a sony fan boy. and to be honest the one x isnt really worth the money right now with nothing xbox only to play on it outside of the 4k updates to forza gears and halo theres nothing. and sea of thieves was garbage. so imo microsoft needs to step their exclusive titles game up big time if they want to compete with sony
