In light of everything going on I find myself having to defend playing games like PUBG, COD, or Battlefield more than I have in the past. Are there any good breakdowns/write-ups on why violence in video games aren't the issue? Much appreciated.

 

Where is this coming from? The recent accusations in the news that video games are causing violence? This happened in the past too. It was Eminem for a while too I believe.

 

mainly it's that there's not a correlation between playing violent video games and acting violently that's been discovered academically, so it's a bit of a nonstarter. i also think there's a compelling argument to be made for the necessary artistic freedom that should accompany game development

 

Yeah, I think they debunked it pretty quickly the last time they attempted to associate video games with violence.

 

Unfortunately, coming from my family members who want to keep their guns and say "but what about those games you play, ban those". I more or less told them what @Spencer Control said but they weren't buying it.

 

How about this? Ill keep playing my games and you keep shooting your guns. Conversation over. Haha.
(It's not the solution but something needs to be done)

Wow....feel like this could cause some....issues?

I mean, the easy response to this is that all the violent games are "largely" available across the entire world without restriction and they have no where near the issue the USA has with it.

You can't kill a person with a video game.

 

if theres any relation to be made, its not between the games themselves and violence, but between certain communities within gaming culture that radicalize young white men online. your 4chans, reddits, etc. other toxic communities that are associated with "gaming" and gaming culture

 

You could totally kill someone with a N64 cartridge

 

One of my friends bled from being hit with a N64 controller

Me and my older brother definitely threw controllers at each other growing up and into our late teens

 

I finished Dragon Quest 9 some time last month, so now I'm on to DQ5. Think I'll be playing this series for the next little while, really enjoying it.

 

all the skate games are on sale this week on Xbox and I really am thinking about getting them all.

also @Rob Hughes i has a Xbalanque go 1-13 and we somehow managed to win and he spammed I'm the greatest.

I was so furious.

Would love to get into the Dragon Quest series, but I’m p sure none are backwards compatible on PS4.

Do you have a DS? That's what I've been playing them on
