There’s single player DLC that’s coming out after The Last Jedi for free that should complete the story. That level acts as an epilogue to the first section right after Jedi and an intro to the upcoming DLC.

so if i play games maybe 5-7 hours a week, the better option would be to just get the xbox one S over the xbox one x right? i was debating getting the X, but i just don't think it would be worth the price tag for how minimal i game nowadays, also the target black friday deal for the S seems unbeatable also.

I’d say S unless you want to have something more powerful for the future.

What are you talking about lol, that doesn't address what Joe said

I've finished the story on 2 characters now and all the armor and weapons I get are from playing the game.

Bright engrams really are just cosmetics. You can buy silver to get bright engrams but it's really not necessary because every time you level up after the cap (20), you get a bright engram anyway.

    Destiny 2>>>>>>1 by far

Anyone play Paragon? Really like the new HUD/interface, it’s so much nicer than the old one. Also love how they reworked the jungle, I just clean house as Khimera in there. Plus, love how the bots are much harder now, you actually gotta work to get through a match with them.

Microtransaction in general are not a problem. They are literally necessary given market conditions. You can't have your cake and eat it too. Pointing at Nintendo or Sony games that don't have them is not a good argument, platform holders are in a significantly different situation. Games like Nier are cheaper to make and maintain than games like Battlefront and sell a tiny amount (even though Nier was a hit within its niche) compared to what games Battlefront sell. Completely different worlds.

Cosmetic microtransactions are fine. I don't particularly like lootboxes, they're problematic to an extent, but if they are just filled with costumes anyway who gives a shit. The only thing about cosmetics that bothers me is that aesthetically they can turn games into messes.

The sort of games that have microtransations don't interest me anyway so I don't really care lol

  11. of course, I agree, we can't dismiss micro-transactions when we've been bitching about season passes. I understand it has to be one or the other. that said

    1) some games have both. Destiny 2? s'fucked up.
    2) microctransactions where you can buy stuff is fine, but the problem is that this is gambling. you don't know what you're buying.

Season passes were a remedy that didn't actually work all that well. An anecdote: when I booted up the Witcher 3 (a game that did very well) DLC for the first time, almost year after it came out, a rare achievement popped up. Nobody is buying this shit. I do agree that combining the two is annoying in some cases, Destiny and Battlfield being good examples.

And yeah the "gambling" (which is maybe a little inaccurate but not as much as some people think) isn't great. It's not as bad with cosmetics but I still don't like it.

The actual, fundamental problem is that games are too cheap with regards to skyrocketing development costs yet many gamers still aren't even willing to pay full price. Developers and publishers contributed to that second part, but it's not all on them.

They should just spend less on making games, simple.

  16. You’re not wrong. Games are needlessly bloated.

That's easier said than one. The reason costs are going up is mostly that graphical fidelity is going up (as well as a.i. quality and so on of course) and that is something gamers care about A LOT. 90% of the PS4 over Xbox One narrative in the first year was 1080p over 900p. If you're game isn't graphically and technically impressive, you're niche or close to it. Very few exceptions to that (Pokemon as a handheld game with AAA sales, for example). You can generally count on these companies to spend as little money as possible within the boundaries of consumer demands.

  18. yes, but I mean look at this recent example, Shadow of Mordor: Do you need 1000 different armor sets and weapons which barely change the stats? do you really need all those side-activities?

I think it's time to take a good hard look at the games that are being developed and streamline them. I think it would greatly aid the games, because as they are right now, they're a hot mess.

They're bloated yes, most games are bad I've been saying this, but that's not where most of the money goes in development. A lot of people also seem to like bloated games, but that's another story.

  20. yes, but not every game needs to look like Horizon: Zero Dawn.

Look at Zelda, from a purely technical standpoint it's a "meh" at best, but clever and tasteful art direction can do so much for a game.
(see also: Journey, The Witness, Rime)

and suddenly the game can run at 60fps and you can really make that gameplay sing.

That's Nintendo - different, long story. A comparable Sony game visually would be Gravity Rush, which is niche. All those other games you mentioned are niche games too. Not in the games media, but in reality. I agree with you in terms of art direction vs pure tech, but we're not the average video game consumer, more than 20 million of which bought Battlefront 1. All the things I'm saying here are just short versions of research results as well as actual sales number that have been reported over the last few yeas. Like I said, the industry is broken in many ways.

I'd be interested in seeing what a huge game like COD or Battlefront would sell if they spent way less money on making it look good and focused on creating a great game with tons of cool stuff to do and get without paying any extra.

    Like Wolfenstein = like ass

That's not guaranteed, but the risk is high

I doubt it. COD and Battlefront are way bigger IP's than Wolfenstein.
