Also, I’m ticked that Rockstar is charging $40 for L.A Noire, that should be twenty tops.

I do think reddit has taken it to the extreme, however opinions being voiced to show them that this isn’t going to fly with the community is important. Letting them just slip it in without any backlash sets a dangerous precedent for other companies to try it

Oh I know, and people should speak out if they are displeased with it. Reddit just needs to chill, you’d think EA shot their dog or something.

For real though, this is what’s making me mad at gaming right now.

I (obviously) don’t support harrassment of individual employees but my comment wasnt really directed to that. I was expressing support for the hate and criticism that EA the company is getting, which I stand by.

Exactly. Hence why EA deserves to be trashed for this. It’s like, they’re so damn greedy they can’t just be content with Overwatch money. They have to push it and gouge players with time gating and pay-to-win mechanics. When if they had made a solid shooter with a traditional progression system coupled with loot boxes containing cosmetic items (helmets, armor pieces, emotes, emblems, whatever else), most people would’ve been fine with it, and they would’ve made a ton of money. Instead they have a deserved PR disaster and have completely wasted a golden opportunity to make the definitive Star Wars multiplayer experience.

The amount of Halo 2 I played on Xbox was probably unhealthy

Battlefront 2 will likely sell a shitload of copies, so the question is who "the community" actually is.

Like I said, if it was up to me I'd implement cosmetics only, but like who gives a shit about what I think.

Cosmetics only still would’ve made them a killing too. They just got way too greedy with it

I think it comes down to the nature of a game such as Battlefront as opposed to games like Rocket League and Overwatch.

One aims to provide a more short term (circa 1-2 years) big release, make as much money as possible in the games short lifespan, and gear up for the sequel. As opposed to games like Rocket League and Overwatch that are long term IP's (for lack of a better word) that use the microtransactions to become sort of self sufficient and maintain long term support from the developers.

Both types (cosmetic only and then EA's approach) probably make a shit load of money - it's just one is more effective for the short attention span that a game like Battlefront II is going to have.

Yeah, at the end of the day, people on Reddit and other social media sites are only a small portion of people. Most people who haven't followed any of these are going to buy it because it's Star Wars, especially for kids on the holidays. It probably won't be a major hit but it will sell.

At the risk of sounding like I'm defending the practice of EA (which I absolutely am not), I don't think they're evil incarnate like Reddit seems to. I think they have blown it out of proportion a little bit.

EA isn't the first or the last to putt these sorts of things in games, and the internet seems to have a little bit of a hate boner for their Battlefront reboot as is, so it was always going to attract more flack. Add to that the fact that budgets for these AAA games have spiralled into crazy, crazy figures, add in marketing costs as well (it's everywhere recently for Battlefront), and I'm not surprised they want to try and make as much as possible of it back and move into profit on the game as quickly as possible, especially when the hype for the game will die down in a couple of months.

Again, I'm not defending it. I don't like lootboxes or that sort of thing and I'll never personally but one, but I do think Reddit is overreacting slightly.

surprisingly me and a few co-workers were talking about BF2 yesterday and a few of them have actually cancelled their preorders due to this fiasco.

I didn’t think that would happen and one of them is a huge Star Wars fan.

I had one friend get a refund and then go about how he's going to get Destiny 2. I had to point out to him that Activision was no better and that he shouldn't considering how they handled the first game and that Activision has been doing loot boxes for COD for the past few games. Don't think I got far with it but hey, I tried.

But Destiny 2 doesn’t have pay-to-win mechanics and Activision hasn’t forced them into it. Activision has their own problems but I don’t think it’s useful to whatabout this situation.

the only problem with destiny 2 is just the lack of end game content and the grind is terrible.

My personal issue with it was that they charged people $60 for a game that basically wasn't done, charged for two DLC packs, "fixes the game" almost a year later, charges for another DLC pack that makes the game what it was supposed to be, does this for two more expansions, then releases a sequel for another $60 dollars after charging close to $150 or more for the original and it's content. That's horseshit in my personal opinion so I will not buy it purely out of principle. It's a cool game, yeah, but I stand by that.

I wonder why people never threw this big of a tantrum over Battlefield's shortcut packs, that's literally paying to win.

Friends and I had a permanent LAN set up in their empty garage for the longest time. Some of my favorite gaming memories are from playing 8 person Halo/Halo 2 custom games in that damn garage. It did destroy some friendships though haha.
