Really like a handful of songs, some really interesting and cool stuff going on here at times too, but don't love it (or at least the vibe) overall as much as everyone else unfortunately. Hopefully a grower for me.

 

also idk how this album isn't restless or grandiose

 

They say they go overlong here. That’s absurd.

 

It doesn’t even reach a full hour. and it certainly doesn’t come close to feeling like a full hour

 

I think there's some meandering parts of the album that I'd cut out. I still need to really dive into the lyrics

 

I love the stereogum review, it is so true that cultivating an abiding affection for the Grateful Dead is normal growing up stuff

 

really really like this on first listen. can't wait to sit with it more.

for real tho standouts for me are: hold you now, harmony hall (duh), bambina, this life, how long, unbearably white, rich man, uhhhh oops just realized im gonna end up with a list of the whole album, not one of these songs doesnt do it for me. we'll see how thats going in a week or two after the honeymoon "holy fucking shit we have a new vampire weekend album" phase ends.

 

This is a lot to take in, but I’m super impressed thus far. This album cycle has completely made me a fan of this band, and I’m so glad that happened.

You should listen to their first album - it's is a million times better than their latest.

 

It’s their worst album but it’s still great

 

I'm thoroughly enjoying the latest so I look forward to the first then haha

 

i think this band got substantially better with every album. not even going to try and compare FOTB to MVOTC yet, not for a while.

 

My Mistake is top tier

 

I admittedly don't listen to the few two albums much anymore save for select songs. MVOTC pulled me back in and this one has continued that excitement and enjoyment for me.

 

contra is their best album is the thing

i like this one better than i expected still

 

Loved the last 3 ofc especially how they built off each other and referenced each other.

This one is more self contained, I haven’t caught any references to the other records but I also haven’t really looked because I’ve just been in awe of the music and the sheer quality on display

 

how this lands in their catalog (earnest open-hearted sprawl following up their most introverted and fractured record) reminds me of... the suburbs

 

hmm, maybe I need to do a discography listen then. never caught any of this haha

 

i need to spend more time with it but i think my main issue with this record is the pacing. i know people say it doesn’t feel long but... it’s long, y’all
