I always try not to make blanket statements like ‘all cops are bad’ because I’m really not about tarring everyone with the same brush. Obviously it’s grotesque what’s been happening, and it’s glaringly obvious that it’s not a new issue, but yeah...

Idk, the police have saved both mine and my friend’s lives before. And before I moved, in my area my local station was very vocal and active with the community and charities, organising free public classes etc. Can’t stand being the ‘not all...’ person but I do think there’s a point to be made.

Being a part of an establishment that’s evidently rotten to the core obviously carries with it a vile stigma, and rightly so, but I’m not going to pretend I’ve never seen the police do anything good, and that outright shitting on every cop doesn’t make me uncomfortable.

And before you all go off - the situation in the US is completely fucked. It absofuckingLUTELY warrants the response it’s getting. I’m just not huge on the whole ‘fuck pigs’ kinda talk when I know personally and have experienced police that actually mean well. Obviously you have to factor in that I’m white in all of this, which undermines my points but idk. I’m not trying to stir shit and for the love of fuck don’t try to twist my words or imply I’m a ‘bootlicker’ or whatever because I’m lucky enough to know decent people. Just sometimes this place is a bit intense? Idk.

 

I mean I don’t think people have to agree with me but that doesn’t mean I’m not going to be frank in my views and discuss them and even debate them when the time is right

honestly it sucks bc I don’t even want to engage with that because anything I could say has already been said and you still said the things you said so it’s like ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ no use in repeating what’s already been said lol

also I thought it pretty much went without saying that when we say all cops we mean in the United States. No ones trying to speak for the police force in other countries bc I feel confident in saying none of us have enough of a clue to even start

Well you say like “because I’m lucky enough to know decent people” or know ones that “meant well” and it’s like...that’s totally ignoring a huge set of discourse that just happened about why that’s not enough or why someone’s decency level doesn’t reflect why we make sweeping statements against them

I think we’re missing each other there bc idk what you’re really saying. I’m not talking about why what’s happening is happening or whatever. We had a discussion about the system that cops uphold (specifically in the US) and thus why we feel comfortable making that blanket statement

like we laid out the discourse of why it’s deeper than seeing cops do nice things or “meaning well” and you clearly didn’t agree/listen/whatever and that’s fine. You’re free to have your own opinions. I don’t think you’re getting what I’m saying, and perhaps vice versa
