However I personally don’t believe in “good” cops. I’m not trying to be harsh because I know you said your friend did it. But for me my problem with police go much further than just their brutality. They exist to protect property and the bourgeoisie. Their inherent existence is to view people as the opposition and gives them way too much power.
I’m sure that there are plenty of people who entered the force for “noble” reasons but when you unpack those noble reasons they’re usually pretty racist and classist in itself. the system itself is supremely fucking broken and unless your friend is standing up to it every single time he sees it then he’s complacent and that sucks.

i completely agree, and was trying to word a post in a way that came across as, i dont mean to be naive, i think the job of a cop as is makes a person bad, howveer good they are at home, at work theyre bad, and thats the true issue. There are bad people who become cops, yes, but there are plenty of good people who are shitty cops.

 

But I’m not saying I know the answer I sadly don’t think there is an answer besides completely demolishing the idea of police and rebuilding It but clearly bootlicking America will have none of that

 

I understand your desire to separate it. I have no one in my life in law enforcement, so it’s obviously not something I can understand trying to reconcile with.

 

the problem with "good cops" is what are they doing about their buddies and getting them to not be shitty racist pricks, probably jack shit

Maybe it’s just that what I pay attention to has changed in the last few years, but I have seen a LOT more posts, articles, and general focus on defunding police and shifting money in communities to more worthy areas than I have in the past. I hope that’s one aspect of this response that gets more and more support and action taken.

It reminds me of when I went to that “gaming with cops!!!” Thing lmao and I was like ok so do you ever see any of your fellow cops do something you don’t agree with? If so, what do you do when that happens?

i work w cops on a pretty frequent basis, mostly state troopers. like half of them are stand offish, a quarter of them are complete dickheads, and another quarter are chill af. like its been said the police is like the epitome of a good ol boys club w little to no accountablility, and i think the stress of the job definitely exacerbates that. the root of the problem definitely goes beyond the police tho.

 

i've met a lot of nice cops. actually haven't met one I didn't get along with.

that being said each one was part of an institution that protects society including its inequality, racism, class structure, people in power, property, etc.

I think it’s sweet that people always want to think the best of..well, everyone, but like need I remind you that most men are fucking trash lmao and if they are trash it’s gonna be behind closed doors where you aren’t privy to it

Kinda random but something I’ve been thinking of a lot because I see wayyyyyy too frequently the mindset of “oh I know that person they would NEVER do anything bad”

I’m referring to cops yes but also the fact that cops are domestic abusers and then that expands to any domestic abuser and then that opens up to r*pists etc

it’s like that old age thing “why is it that I know so many women who have been raped but no men know a rapist”

people just rly need to come to grips with the fact that people they know and love do shitty fucking things sometimes

That sucks. idk how your area is even handling the curfew but like after ours was in place I saw several people’s live-streams out after curfew still engaging directly with police
I’m sure they continued or escalated or will escalate to tear gas/etc but. Idk I haven’t heard how it ended really

I don’t have the answers or anything but I do feel like this whole inability to see the people we love as doing something horrific is detrimental bc it silences victims and dismisses them and yeah ultimately protects the abusers.
Like literally just before this on fb this girl had some draaaama in her comments and someone said something like accusing this dude of hitting his kid and my friend was like “oh I know he would NEVER do what you’re saying so I know you’re lying” and it’s like that shits so problematic
