Thank you it's been insanely uncomfortable for me too, especially when it's men doing it. She had a point in what she was trying to say and people know it. If she didn't say it eloquently enough and people took it as shaming..then that's that. Maybe she can apologize for her how it came off...but I'm so sick of people getting purely cancelled and bullied because they don't say things exactly the way people want them to.

 

Also I can fuck with this new 1975 album, definitely long but my attachment to the band and knowing this is the last one for a while has me adoring it.

It's probably the doubling down that also looks not so good...I mean she called out woc without even thinking "hey maybe I should be more careful in how I say this because it might come off wrong" but also there's a time to be humble and say shit I fucked up...we all say things without thinking about it that can seems insensitive and hurt people without thinking.. I'm not saying cancel her or don't, I suppose that's personal, just wish she would have been a bit more receptive to the message of that.

 

She did have a point and it sucks that it’s getting lost and invalidated by everything else
However I just wish she really engaged with and unpacked -why- people are having a problem with it. Because the reaction is so overarchingly bullying, it will make it easier for her to shrug it off and convince herself she’s a victim and didnt do anything wrong. However I think she should honestly sit with what WOC are saying about her tactics and why they are the wrong way to get her point across. I don’t want her to just apologize bc people are mad. I want her to understand.
this is unfortunately a situation with many layers because it’s an example of intersectional feminism at work. The experiences of black female artists do not match the experiences of white female artists and people (like Lana) need to understand that. However the whole event is ofc being looked at through a culturally misogynistic lens bc they’re all women. It makes it very difficult to parse out valid criticism from misogyny.

Also where I’m at is at the end of the day not every white woman/celebrity is going to ever be the paragon of intersectional feminism. We have to start being okay with people’s politics/opinions not 100% matching up with ours in order to support them (support in this case meaning defending against unnecessary dragging ie the comments about her appearance etc) against the patriarchy.
this is a common problem that’s brought up a lot in the LGBT community as well
Just common in leftist type circles I think
But it’s a real problem that exists
