Games aren’t bad. They just are not a top tier medium for art.

 

You implied this by quoting OhTheWater, who himself says that if a game is marketed for story, he's out. I am presuming based on your agreement with his post that you are also immediately out on any story-driven games.

 

I can accept this, begrudgingly, although I do not agree that games can't have that capacity.

Yes, podcasts are generally low. More often than not they just really boil down to hanging out and talking about the current events. There is no oversight the way there would be with a show or movie.

Video games have come a long way, but there is definitely a ceiling in their artistic quality that comes from their main audience of angry young men. The independent games keep making strides, though.

In all seriousness, I gave up on video games a long time ago. I played staples like GTA, Halo, Call of Duty, and Destiny. There were a few others scattered around too. The stories never really grabbed me and I was always more interested in the game play. But even that, I enjoyed playing with others and the communal aspects more than playing alone. Over time I just kind of left them behind to focus on things I enjoyed more like film, music, books, and other hobbies. I’m sure the medium has improved to the point where it’s more engaging, but they’re just not a priority for me.
