I'm almost through the first season of Abbott Elementary and I don't get the accolades at all. The mockumentary format needs to cool off for a few years.

Abbott Elementary is definitely very overrated but I do enjoy watching it enough. It's kind of like Superstore where I've seen every episode but don't remember much of what happens and rarely laugh, but it's pleasant to have on in the background

I think most shows are just lukewarm but I enjoy watching them

I have never seem Trading Places, 48 Hours, or Beverly Hills Cop. I remember Coming To America being funny, but I can't tell you if it holds up or not.

    They are all good movies.

I have seen some real dumb guy posts lately that are like "never show these kids Blazing Saddles they will lose their minds!"

Having rewatched Blazing Saddles pretty recently I think it is the opposite. That movie for the most part is a really good example of how to do "edgy" racial/social humour that punches up instead of down. Richard Pryor co-writing it probably helped in that regard. The only exception is that one kind of homophobic scene in the last act that serves no purpose other than to make fun of gay guys for being effeminate.

My issue with this take is that you're referring to The Sopranos as, "good," as if it's not the greatest show ever made.

“The last good show is The Sopranos” is the new “No good music came out after the ‘70s.”

1995 is where music started getting good.

I see a post about this scene like once every 3 weeks and I gotta say, it’s really not as funny as everyone says it is

A funnier scene is before that, when they destroy millions of dollars in property to retrieve a negligible amount of drugs.

Aim for the bushes scene is classic and it immediately comes to mind when I hear My Hero. Also crack up when Ice-T says “either way, that shit was crazy” right after.

There are a lot of subtle bits and gags in that movie that really get me good. Will Ferrell getting his dummy gun taken and given back to him with some nice oil finish always gets a chuckle out of me.

I’ve been trying with Abbot Elementary and it’s very “fine”… season one was very promising and since then I think they’ve been leaning really hard into character stereotypes instead of developing interesting stories.
